Accrington Stanley agree compensation for Cook

Accrington Stanley have released a statement saying they have now agreed a compensation deal with Chesterfield for Paul Cook - and it is understood his exit will be confirmed tomorrow morning.

The two clubs had been locked in compensation talks all day after Chesterfield decided Cook was the man they wanted to replace the departed John Sheridan.

And Stanley have now confirmed that a deal has been agreed and that the Spireites have been granted permission to speak to Cook.

The 45-year-old is understood to have told Stanley that he wants to join Chesterfield and his switch to Derbyshire is expected to go through in the morning.

Stanley's statement tonight read: "Accrington Stanley have received a formal approach from Chesterfield about the services of manager Paul Cook.

"Negotiations over a compensation package have taken place, a deal agreed and following discussions with Paul the club have given him permission to speak to the Spireites about their vacant managerial post."

A Chesterfield statement read: "Chesterfield have been given permission to hold talks with Accrington Stanley boss Paul Cook over the vacant managerial position at the club.

"The Spireites were given the go-ahead to speak to Cook after agreeing compensation with their League Two rivals.

"Tommy Wright has been in caretaker charge at the Proact Stadium since the departure of John Sheridan at the end of August."

What's the point of taking the job in the first place if you're going to jump ship as soon as there's another offer? Chesterfield isn't exactly an exciting switch, why not stay and at least have a full seaon with Stanley and see if he can do something?

Couldn't agree more with StanleyMan1 - a job half done, its indicative of football in general today that money is king, loyalty counts for nothing anymore. I wish Paul all the luck in the world with his move, hope it works out for him, as for Stanley - WHO next, please not another journeyman - give Leam the chance to see what he can do upto the end of the season, afterall, he has had the benefit of working with Coleman/Bell and Cook, he has been tought well - also seems Stanley through and through, UNLESS of course he is the next to head for Derbyshire ?
