THE roadworks that threatened the cancellation of the Circuit of Ingleborough were cleared in time for the Pendle Forest Cycling Club promotion to go ahead as normal on Saturday.

From the 80 finishers, the fastest time of 1 hour 5 minutes 30 seconds came from Yorkshire's Andy Jackson, who won by the closest margin possible of one second from Bolton's Adrian Lawrence.

East Lancashire riders were not far behind with Blackburn and District CTC's Ian Stott finishing 6th in 1:07.25, Clayton Velo's Peter Greenwood took 9th in 1:08.09 and Rob Dickinson of the North Lancs. Road Club 15th in 1:09.52. Greenwood also won the Vet50+ award and Dave Hargreaves of the NLRC won the Vet60+ award with 1:13.32.

This Saturday, the North Lancashire Road Club promote their annual 10-mile time trial, and organiser Mark Goodchild has almost 90 entries.

The Michael Pryce Memorial Trophy will go to the fastest man and the Christine Goodfellow Memorial trophy to the fastest woman.

The course is on the A6 road at Garstang, with the headquarters at Catterall Village Hall and a start time of 2pm.

The World Track Championships will be held over five days starting Wednesday next week on the wooden boards of the Manchester Velodrome. There will be an East Lancashire interest this year with Colne's Steven Burke selected as one of the endurance squad. Hopefully, Steven will get the nod to compete in the Team Pursuit finals on Thursday with a chance of his first senior World's Gold Medal to go with those already won in the Junior and under 23 Championships.
