DESPITE its early season date, the Circuit of Pendle enjoyed a decent day for weather with only a nagging wind to trouble the 60 competitors.

The fastest ride of the day went to Preston's Mark Holton, competing for the sponsored ProBikeKit team in the excellent time of 1 hour 6 minutes 56 seconds for the hilly 27 miles.

He put a margin of over two minutes between himself and second-placed Adrian Lawrence of the Bolton-based Lancashire Road Club.

Ian Stott, of Blackburn and District CTC, was the best of the East Lancashire contingent in third slot with a time of 1-09-58 .

And Pete Greenwood, of the Clayton Velo, took fifth place with 1:11.27 to also give him the Veteran 50 plus award.

Dave Hargreaves, of the North Lancs Road Club, clocked 1:18.21 to take fastest Veteran 60 plus, while his team-mates Rob Dickinson (1:13.20), Duncan Park (1:13.45) and Fraser Snape (1:14.40) won second team award.

Greenwood also took the additional prize offered by Pendle Cycles at Padiham for the fastest rider in a BB postcode area.

After the Rossendale Road Club promotion of last week, this event was the second counter in the Lakes and Lancashire Sporting Courses series, with the action moving to Lancaster this weekend before the Pendle Forest Cycling Club hold their ever popular Circuit of Ingleborough the following weekend.
