In almost a carbon copy of last weekend over the 10 mile course at Garstang Darwen’s on-form Ian Cox was again winner and again leading his North Lancashire Road Club to the team award.

Cox was fastest of the 90 entries in the Bolton Clarion promotion although his time of 21 minutes 28 seconds was slightly slower than the previous week due to a stiff northerly wind.

The 23m 19s of Paul Taylor of Hoddlesden and 23m 52s from Dave Clough of Clayton-le-Moors ensured a repeat success for the club in the team race.

Further north near Lindale in south Cumbria, Langho’s Rob Pye of the Clitheroe Bike Club was first across the line in the 50 plus section of the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists Road Race over 42 miles around eight laps of circuit with a nasty hill on each loop.

Ribble Valley-based national president of British Cycling Brian Cookson clinched second in the over 60s section with his Team Sky Pinarello bike helping to push Blackburn’s Dave Hargreaves into third.

With the evenings getting longer the Pendle Forest Cycling Club mid week time trials from Thornton-in-Craven have started with Irish rider Hamish Graham taking the first win with 25 minutes one second for the 10 miles followed by three Forest riders Ian Duckworth (26-24),Paul Targett (27-13) and James Driver (28-48).
