Colne cyclist Burke beats Cavendish in Revolution race

COLNE cyclist Steven Burke fended off competition from Tour de France star Mark Cavendish to secure victory in the latest event of the Revolution series on Saturday.
Cavendish, who has rose to fame with a total of 20 stage wins on the Tour de France over the past four years, was making a one-off return to track cycling for the event in Manchester.
But the 26-year-old from the Isle of Man was defeated by Burke, a bronze medallist at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, in the motor-paced scratch event.
Cavendish led early on in the 24-lap race, but Burke emerged triumphant on the last lap.
Burke - again riding for Team UK Youth, the team associated with the charity of ex-Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell – later finished second behind Cavendish in the endurance scratch race.
He now leads the standings in the Revolution series after two events.
