A TRIO of North Lancashire Road Club clinched the team award in the National Veterans 50 mile Championship held on Cheshire roads on a nasty wet weekend.

Based on performance against age, Blackburn’s Rod Goodfellow was best of the three with a ride of 2 hours 17 minutes 9 seconds giving him a ‘Plus’ in that category of 36 minutes 41 seconds against the time set for his age.

Next came Great Harwood’s Harry Haseley with 2h 16m 29s actual and a plus of 33m 30s with another Harwood resident, Peter Briscoe, with an actual of 2h 05m 08s giving a plus of 30m 24s.

In the final individual table, Egerton’s Frank Kerry took second individual overall when he returned 2h 11m 02s, giving him a plus of 46m 44s to the winner Brian Sunter of Yorkshire’s plus 48m 31s.

The tandem of James Prossor and Gill Craske of Church was winner of that category with a personal best time of 2h 00m 35s.

Much further north Darwen’s Ian Cox and also a member of the NLRC continued his run of good form in winning the Border City Wheelers 25 mile in 54minutes 51 seconds.

Paul Taylor, also of Darwen, took fifth in 59-22 with Brockhall’s Gary Sedgwick slipping into the top 10 with a 1h 00m 38s ride.

Three of our local Pro riders finished in the top dozen in the Colne town centre Grand Prix last week with Ian Wilkinson of the Endura team in fifth slot, Steven Burke of the Team UK Youth squad sixth and Simon Wilson of CyclePremier-Metaltek 12th.

The Pendle Forest weekly time trial was the 13 miles ‘Gisburn Grimpeur’ which finishes on the 1000 foot climb of Coldcoates on the Blacko road.

Easy winner on the night was their own Craig Holden in 37minutes 50seconds followed by a tight trio of Kevin Hickie of Bronte Wheelers (40-42) and two PF members Ian Duckworth (40-48) and Martin Welsh (40-51).

At Hapton the Rossendale 10 mile was won by Darwen’s Paul Taylor in 25m 08s with three of their own in the next slots with Paul Warrener (25-46), Jason Craven (26-03) and Julian Monk (26-16).

It was close at the top of the leader board in the North Lancs Road Club ‘10’ at Clitheroe with their own Simon Capstick of Holme-in-Cliviger best with 24-28 with Richard Sagar second (24-37), Duncan Park third (24-49) and Paul Taylor fourth (24-50).
