The Pendle Forest Cycling Club promotion of the ‘Circuit of Ingleborough’ was a huge success again.
First-time organiser Danny Davies, of Brierfield, set himself off as first rider of the 80 entries, with the fastest time coming from Peter Williams of the Motorpoint-sponsored professional team, who turned in a very good 1 hour 2 minutes 39 seconds performance.
Burnley’s Jimmy Wright was second best, although his time of 1-06-20 was almost four minutes adrift of the winner.
Next best of our East Lancashire riders was evergreen Peter Greenwood of the Clayton Velo club who clocked 1-09-19 for 10th slot and ensured him the Veteran 50+ award.
As in the previous week’s Circuit of Pendle, the North Lancs Road Club won the team award with Rob Dickinson of Burnley clocking 1-10-20, Fraser Snape of Blackburn 1-12-18 and a tie for third qualifier between Blackburn-based members Dave Hargreaves and Martin Wilcock, both with 1-15-59.
This season is certain to be an interesting one for our local riders, especially with three of them signing new contracts with some of the top British-based professional teams.
One of the trio, Simon Wilson, of Worsthorne near Burnley, who has signed for the CyclePremier.com-Metaltek team, had his first Pro win on Saturday when he took the Sundome Criterium at Shrewsbury. Additionally, Colne’s Steven Burke will be riding in the newly launched Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta squad while Barnoldswick’s Ian Wilkinson has signed for the new Endura Racing team.
