COLNE’S Steven Burke has been named in the provisional Great Britain squad for the World Track Championships later this month – and he could be competing alongside returning Olympic gold medallist Jason Queally.
Queally, from Chorley, triumphed in the 1km time trial at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 but has been out of the Great Britain picture for some time.
The 39-year-old, though, has been named in the provisional six-man squad for the team pursuit after impressing while preparing to become a ‘pacer’ for the British Paralympic team at 2012.
Burke – a bronze medallist in the individual pursuit at the 2008 Olympics – is also in the squad, with only four making it on to the track for the World Championships in Copenhagen between March 24 and 28.
Burke may also be in contention to compete in the omnium event.
