WATERFOOT’S Paul Warrener must certainly have set some kind of record last week when he won the three evening 10-mile time trials held on East Lancashire roads.

On Tuesday evening, the Rossendale cyclist won his own club’s 10-miler at Hapton with a time of 24 minutes 56 seconds.

Wednesday he was fastest in the North Lancashire Road Club event at Edisford near Clitheroe with 23-39, and the following evening was winner of the Pendle Forest Cycling Club ‘10’ at Thornton-in-Craven with the fast time of 22-08.

Second place in the Rossendale event was taken by Roy Flanagan in 26-42 with Derek Schofield third in 27-36 and Adrian Watts fourth with 28-48.

All are members of the promoting club. At Edisford, Duncan Park was a close-up second in 23-41, Fraser Snape third in 24-43 and Bob Matthews fourth with 25-04.

Again, these three were members of the organising club. In the Pendle Forest ‘10’, 14-year-old Nathan Smedley of Nelson Wheelers continued to show his outstanding ability, finishing second in 23-21 with Dave Metcalfe (Team Swift) third in 24-08 and Brian Hickey (PF) fourth in 24-21.

Warrener was again in action early on Sunday morning in the Preston Wheelers 25 mile at Garstang, finishing fourth and fastest 40 year plus rider in the excellent time of 56 minutes 35 seconds.

In this event, Pleckgate High School teacher Dave Isherwood took 6th in 57-09, Dave Ebbrell was 8th in 57-35 and Fraser Snape took 9th in 58-09.

The overall winning time from Lytham’s Mark Holton of 52 minutes 59 seconds was only 56 seconds short of Gethin Butlers exceptional course record.

Three local riders were in the top three places in the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists road races at Elswick in the Fylde at the weekend.

Duncan Park of West Bradford took second in the 50 mile 40-44 year old category whilst Dave Hargreaves of Blackburn was second in the 60-64 category with John Leach of Rawtenstall third.
