The Blackburn and District CTC 2-up team time trial was its usual success - but the best that an East Lancashire-based team could claim was the fifth place.

That time of 21 minutes 11seconds by Rossendale’s Paul Warrener and Duncan Park of the North Lancs Road Club saw them pip Simon Philips and Jason Bateman ,of Pendle Forest, into sixth as they clocked 21-33.

In the prizes as the fastest team with a juvenile or junior rider was the father and son pairing of Chris Smedley and son Nathan in 22-40.

Fastest time on the day was a brilliant 20 minutes 15 second ride by Maxgear RT pair Tony Greenhalgh and Richard Handley, which was just 14 seconds short of the course record.

The Rossendale Road Club evening 10 mile time trial based on the Accrington to Burnley road at Hapton had a new winner in Roy Flanagan.

Flanagan clocked 26 minutes 31 seconds, beating Scottish visitor Rob Marshall by exactly half a minute.

Rossendale members took third and fourth thanks to Patrick Hamilton (27-11) and Adrian Watts (28-05).

Their regular fastest rider Paul Warrener was nevertheless in action on the same evening, taking second in the Ribble Valley CRC 10 mile at Garstang with a time of 22-01.

Next Tuesday there will be no event at Hapton with the action moving to two laps of the 11 mile Bolton-by-Bowland circuit for the Festival of Britain Trophy.

The start time is 7pm with signing on at Flass on the Copy Nook to Wigglesworth road.

That man Warrener was soon back in the saddle again and returning best time in the North Lancashire Road Club 10 mile at Edisford with 23 minutes 51 seconds, just five seconds better than last week’s winner Duncan Park of Clitheroe.

Third was Rossendale’s Derek Schofield (25-57) and Dave Hargreaves (26-09) was fourth with wet roads slowing the riders down.

At the weekend three Burnley residents set the successful trend for their fellow sporting heros with Peter Greenwood taking second place in a 50-miler at Keswick with 1 hour 54 minutes 38 seconds with Rob Dickinson finishing sixth in 1-59-18 while Jimmy Wright took a top 20 position in the National 10 mile at Newbury with a 21-12 ride.
