Top ride from the local racing cyclists over the weekend came from Barnoldswick’s Ian Wilkinson as he performed well in Ayrshire.
Wilkinson claimed an excellent fourth place overall in the long established Easter Four Stage race, held in the Scottish resort of Girvan.
The Halfords professional, who had won this prestigious event in 2007, finished ninth in the 62-mile first stage, second in the 16-mile criterium second stage, fourth in the third and second on the final stage.
That felt him with a slender overall deficit of just 19 seconds on the Polish winner, Marcin Bialoblocki, after a testing nine hours of racing.
Meanwhile, the winner of the North Lancashire Road Club Open 10 mile at Garstang was Preston’s Robbie Brennan in the fast time of 21m1s, which gives him the Michael Pryce Trophy for 2009.
Road Club member Duncan Park was second fastest in 21-54 and backed by Fraser Snape (22-12) and Stuart Whitehead (22-48), the promoting club won the team prize.
The first round of the National Rudy Project Series was held in Cumbria and had Burnley’s Jimmy Wright in overall second place with 1h 6m 43s for two laps of Lake Bassenthwaite against the 1h 5m 56s of winner Philip Graves of Yorkshire.
Peter Greenwood also of Burnley finished third fastest in the one-lap Veteran’s event.
The Thursday evening Pendle Forest time trials have started at Thornton-in-Craven and Kevin Hickey of Bronte Wheelers was winner of the 10-mile event in 25-17, followed home by PF members Steve Singleton (25-45) and Simon Phillips (25-50).
