Colne based Pendle Forest Cycling Club promote their annual classic Circuit of Ingleborough on Saturday and event secretary Paul Whittaker has received a quality entry of 85 for this demanding 27-mile time trial.
Several East Lancashire-based racing cyclists are set to ride with a very interesting entry from Paul Oldham, who is more likely to be seen in cyclo-cross and road racing events but is very likely to spring a surprise on Saturday when he starts as last man off.
The HQ is Ingleton and the course makes a road circuit of Ingleborough taking in Settle and Ribblehead, which is always a popular vantage point for spectators, 10am start.
The Pendle Forest event is a counter to the Lancashire Sporting Courses (SPOCO) series of which local riders did well in the qualifying events last weekend.
At Lancaster on Sunday, Duncan Park of the North Lancs Road Club took third and Peter Greenwood (Clayton Velo) fourth. On Saturday, Rob Dickinson (NLRC) finished fourth in the Penrith-based counter.
Clayton Spring Classic winner Rob Hayles was first over the line in a 53-mile Road Race in the Fylde with Halfords team-mate Ian Wilkinson, of Barnoldswick, second.
At Garstang on Saturday, Rossendale’s Paul Warrener was fastest of the local men in the NLTTA ‘10’ with an excellent 22min 45sec ride, with NLRC members Fraser Snape (23-15) and Mark Bateman (23-35) also beating 25mph on a nasty afternoon for weather.
