Although our East Lancashire-based racing cyclists did not come out winners in any of the three major events in the district at the weekend, they were right up there in the major placings.

The best of them was West Bradford’s Duncan Park, who took second fastest in the 27-mile Whalley-based Circuit of Pendle.

His time of 1 hour 9 min 26 sec was just 65 seconds behind winner Paul Shalliker of Bolton, while Park not only led his North Lancashire Road Club team to the team prize along with Fraser Snape (sixth) and Rob Dickinson (seventh), but claimed the award donated by Pendle Cycles of Padiham for the fastest rider with a BB postcode.

The ride of Dave Collinge of Blackburn and District CTC was particularly noteworthy clocking an excellent 1-10-11 for fourth place.

In the Clayton Spring Classic Road Race at Edisford near Clitheroe, Barnoldswick’s Ian Wilkinson had to settle for fourth place after his Halfords Bikehut team dominated the race, taking first four places with 2008 Tour of Pendle winner and British road champion Rob Hayles first past the chequered Flag after 56 tough miles of racing.

In the Rossendale Road Club 10- mile hilly time-trial at Bolton-by-Bowland, our best placed local man was again Park, who tied for fifth place with Circuit of Pendle winner Shalliker in a time of 25 min 51 sec, against the winning time of 25-06 from visitor Dave Tiffin.

Pete Greenwood, of Burnley, was next best East Lancs rider in 26-43 for eighth slot.
