The first weekend of the Cycle Racing season in East Lancashire promises to be one of the busiest of the year with three major promotions on our local roads.
The 41st annual running of the Clayton Velo Spring Classic on Sunday morning has attracted the maximum allowed field of 80 riders, which includes two of our top local roadmen in Ian Wilkinson, of Barnoldswick, riding for his new Halfords Bikehut team and Worsthorne’s Simon Wilson in the Arctic Premier colours.
The event secretary is Russ McLean and the race takes place on a four-mile circuit between Edisford and Higher Hodder, covering 14 laps for a total of 56 miles.
The start time is 10am with the HQ at Edisford Primary School Clitheroe.
On Saturday afternoon from 2pm, Derek Schofield of the Rossendale Road Club promotes a 10.3 mile time-trial based on Bolton-by-Bowland with many of the 57 entries from our local riders.
HQ is at the Hall in the centre of the Ribble Valley village.
On Sunday morning, Peter Briscoe organises the annual North Lancashire Road Club Circuit of Pendle over a 27-mile circuit starting and finishing at Spring Wood Country Park near Whalley.
The start time for the 54 riders is 9am and the HQ for this event is at Oakhill College in Whalley.
