OLYMPIC gold medalist Steven Burke has been left out of the Great Britain team for the Track Cycling World Championships qualifying round which begins in Colombia tonight.

Colne's Burke is in Cali as part of a five-man squad but has not been named in the starting four for the qualifying rounds which get underway at 5pm British time.

Ed Clancy, who was a teammate of Burke's in the London Olympic gold medal winning team pursuit, will lead the quartet with 21-year-old Sam Harrison and 20-year-olds Jon Dibben and Owain Doull also selected.

Burke could be recalled for the medal rides, should Britain qualify. They also take place tonight.

The 25-year-old could also ride the individual pursuit later in the Championships with final selection still to be confirmed.
