Ribblesdale League Saturday round-up

TITLE WINNERS Baxenden with the Ribblesdale League Cup Pic: KIPAX TITLE WINNERS Baxenden with the Ribblesdale League Cup Pic: KIPAX

Cherry Tree’s Joe Bolton smashed his way to the fastest 50 of the Ribblesdale League season as final day fireworks lit up the programme.

Bolton was quite simply awesome in the game at Preston Old Road to leave Padiham shell shocked at the assault.

Bolton didn’t bat until number eight and Padiham were in the box seat after reducing Cherry Tree to 115-6 – but he had his own agenda and teed off in style.

Bolton smashed his way to 84 not out from just 35 balls as he hit eight fours and seven sixes in a bar emptying blast.

Padiham pro Chris Holt was the man to suffer the most in the bar emptying assault as his final day figures were wrecked.

After 20 overs Holt had figures of 3-50 – but when he completed his stint at the end of the innings, his record read 23 overs 3-115.

Cherry Tree’s score turned from the modest to the massive as a result and their 220-7 was challenging on a wicket that was only prepared on Friday night after the week of rain.

It seemed akin to climbing Mount Everest in open-toed sandals when Holt’s horrible day ended with him getting a first baller and as Greg Jones claimed 6-29 Padiham subsided to 46 all out in just 15 overs.

Champions Baxenden saw their game at Settle abandoned and it was a similar story at The Cliffe as the Great Harwood v Barnoldswick game was also a casualty.

Settles five points from the abandonment saw them avoid the wooden spoon as Salesbury slipped to the bottom after being beaten at Ribchester Road by Ribblesdale Wanderers, Wanderers skipper Ian Britcliffe claiming seven wickets in the win.

Read ensured second spot thanks to a big 218-run win over Oswldtwistle Immanuel as Joe Marshall and Warren Eastham hit half centuries at Whalley Road, while there was personal pain for Whalley pro Kamran Younas in the win over Earby.

Younas claimed 3-76 as Earby were 152-7 - but that left him stuck on 99 league wickets for the season and despite his best efforts he couldn’t claim the magical three figures.

He made up for that, however, with 76 as Whalley dashed to a win.

And Clitheroe pro Kashif Siddique was at his brutal best as his men crushed Edenfield at Gincroft Lane.

Siddique clattered 174 as Clitheroe posted 276-8 in a huge win.

I was wrong in backing Barlick for the league but I did warn others about thinking it was a foregone conclusion for Read to win it.
An outstanding season for Babar Naeem which no doubt tipped the scales in your favour as he certainly out performed anyone in the league.

Congratulations by the way on the title Rishy.

cheers peth, bobby had a great season with ball and to certain extent with bat, think the beauty of our league is with some small grounds and weather playing a big part with no replayed games there is always twists and turns in every season.Hope the new pro can perform next season as he has for his former club whalley could be a more than useful signing

Congrats to Bash - like many I couldn't see past Read at the start of the year but Cauncey's men have ended up deserving winners.
They have made a great signing for next year as well - Whalley will miss him and Onion (if the big man finally hangs up his boots) - they will do well to finish as high.
It wasn't just the top of the table predictions that were wrong from a few pundits - perhaps the "dude" would like to tell me where I can collect that tenner he owes me??
Anyone know who he is and where he comes from?

Well, well, well, Mr Bolton!!!! where have you been hiding all season?? I expect you've been hiding, after your clubs dismal performance, and although you didn't finish in the bottom 3 I was very close with my assessment of how dire your first team was going to be. My ten pound remains in an envelope behind the bar at my club with your name written on it, it's all yours if you can make your way to my gaff........But next year don't be hiding ehhh?

Think you should hold your hands up Dude with regard to Clitheroe, surprised a lot of people including me with their turn around in the 2nd half. Think 5th is a great result considering all the pre-season departures.

Interesting to see how the 3 lads from Clitheroe who moved to the Lancs League have done, the artist formerly known as Ali Haider has surprised a few with his 50 wickets at Rishton whilst Dibby has been a bit disappointing and Tim Le B has not featured much at all at Rammy?

Congrats to bash, league table never lies i guess. helps when your pro gets 1000 and 100 but there has been a good few occasions when their lower order has pulled them out of the ****. sometimes the best team on paper isnt always the best TEAM...would like to see the number of games Read actually had our best 11 out. Cant win league without 100% commitment in my opinion. Re pinch hitters post...Tim Le Breton going to Rammy always looked a strange move to me..when trigger takes up one end and they have Mick haslam bowling at least 15 from the other did he really expect to bowl a lot?!

Hear hear Pinch!
Given that 6 first-team regulars left or retired after last year I would hardly call our position "dismal" - as I recall Dude you were most insistant we would be rooted at the bottom. Sixty-odd points clear of the re-election spots is a fair effort given the change in make-up of the side.
Where's your club again so I can collect? Or perhaps you could bring the tenner along to the league dinner - I will even buy you a pint out of it!
Good points made regarding the 3 lads who went to the lancs league - think young TLB will end up in the Northern League or Liverpool comp next season - it was always going to be a bad move with trigger bowling half the overs at Rammy.
Wonder which one of the lads who left Clitheroe was the Sultan? - seems his departure from the forum this season is more than just coincidence?

Have heard on the grapevine that one of Chucker’s lieutenants is taking a short trip along the M65 next season?

Barlick's new pro is Imran Khalid, signed from Manningham Mills in the Bradford League. Genuine first choice spinner for Sui Gas Pipelines and middle order batter. Should do well.

Pinch Hitter says...
5:10pm Mon 26 Sep 11

Stats from last year in Bradford suggest he may be stronger with bat than ball.

Any other new signings in the pipeline Sir Claude?

Two things Pinch, firstly Bradford League is a better league than Ribb and secondly it is restricted overs per bowler. Trying to sign a batter also but can't say who at this stage. By the way Jaffar Nazir is looking for a club if anyone out there is interested. If so then ring me on 07883245065.

I heard that one as well Pinch, and as the man in question is a regular contributor to this forum perhaps he will come on and confirm it? (Ossie a strange destination for a seamer though?)
I also heard that Chucker himself may be leaving for pastures new with the "Meadows" a possible destination.
If the Friend brothers depart as well Cherry will be struggling I would think.

Surely your not suggesting that someone is going to pay a player in Division 2.

Although it would not surprise me (if the other rumours of arrivals at the Arbories are correct) if Howells does move on as he would struggle to get a game at Padiham. Also he has a bit of history of moving about.

In all honesty thought I can’t see the arrivals rumours being right:-

1/ Dewhurst – No Chance - Lancs Acadamy player, would they be happy about him moving from Liverpool Comp?

2/ Matt Nutter – Slim Chance - Born and bred Barlicker

3/ Wilson – Possibly? – Colne in a bit of turmoil.

Additionally Padiham made good progress last year with good team spirit, think they are too well run of a club to risk that by starting dishing the brown envelopes out.

Dewhurst to Padiham won't happen, even if he did have a difficult season in the lcomp.
Matt nutter-could be a good signing and the same again with matt wilson!!

With regards to padihams side, it seemed as if they developed towards the end of the season, and if I'm not wrong didn't young howells score some runs towards the end of the season? All be it 30's etc but progression was made.
I was also led to believe that a move completely out of the county was on for him??
I think padiham would be stupid to damage the set-up they already have by introducing more players!

I believe this is a direct result of the way we approach our cricket the right way, all the lads feel very much part of a developing team and the atmosphere is terrific both off and on the field. Very good cricketers with the right attitude will always be welcome at this club.

Nice to see comments from Earby about 'unhappy band of men', despite thinking of it as one of the friendliest clubs i've been to, and i've been conected with many over the years, its blatantly obvious that 'something' is adly wrong! There seems to be no unity throughout the club. The Second team win the league and yet there's no congratulations shown on the facebook account from the first team. Younger players are taken into the first team, used badly and discarded, surely this won't develop them as players or build the loyalty clubs need from players.
Finally to see the first team take to the field and witness the club captain and the professional (an excellent cricketer by the way) barely talking to each other again looks bad for the coming year!!! Please get your acts together and be the club you should be!

On another note! Has anybody heard the rumour regarding Warren Eastham taking over as Captain of stacksteads? A More realistic level of captaincy one guesses???? ;-)

agree rishy . the league are worried there may be boos and cheers at the presentation. pathetic as it's all good banter to liven the evening up!!!!! will book a taxi for the eagle earlier this year, always end up stuck paying a fortune for beer at myton fold!!!!! some interesting rumours all ready!

agree spen but what is strange is that clubs had chance to vote it in and didnt including one team who won a cup !!!! might even go straight to the eagle and miss out but would be a shame for young ben who has won an award.More rumours, nicholls not playing at barlick, umar to clitheroe ,nutts maybe proin ??

If they are all correct then looks like Barlick may be continuing along the 'boom and bust' cycle of recent years.

I heard umar has signed up for a weekly brown envelope at Bacup Rish. He isnt one of 2012's additions at Clitheroe anyway.
Agree regarding the failure to present trophies to clubs - there's always a bit of banter and light-hearted booing but thats part of the fun and no reason for not recognising the winners!!
Hopefully, having seen the proposed rule changes for the AGM the leg-side wide rule will come in for the senior league - surely it wont get voted out again!!??

cheers stu, both of the player of they year awards have come as a bit of a shock to me. i thought the big one might go to mcintosh 60 odd wickets chipping in with runs and missing a number of games, also thought the young one might of gone to scott friend who has had a good steady season, what does everyone else think of the award winners?

Shame, 600 league runs and 40 wickets! Dont like being runner up to the Main prize! Might have more luck next year with a new captain! ;-)
