Baxenden claimed only their fifth Ribblesdale League title on Saturday – but they were nervy and anxious after being held up by the rain.

Andy Caunce’s men were in a good position at Padiham when they were forced off while the only side who could catch them, Read, were flying at Earby and chasing just 60 to take the title race into a final day.

But they couldn't get back on at The Applegarth – and that no result sparked a party for Bash as they got their hands on the silverware they last won two years ago.

Padiham were 42-2 when the rain arrived at The Arbories, while Read were well and truly in the box seat as they skittled Earby for just 59.

Their frustration meant delight for Bash who partied long into the night.

They have won 17 games compared to Read and Banoldswick’s 18 – but they have picked up a staggering 50 bonus points over the course of the campaign with pro Babar Naeem going through the 100 wicket mark.

In contrast, Read claimed just 20 bonus points and Barlick 25.

Cherry Tree lost professional Paul Turner for two but Mark Hadfield (14 not out) and Scott Friend (16 not out) were looking good as their side reached 34-1 at Barnoldswick when it rained nine overs in, while Clitheroe were 28-2 in their derby at Whalley when that match fell victim to the weather.

Ribblesdale Wanderers were 38-2 at home to Settle when Church Meadow was engulfed by the rain, while Salesbury were in the groove at Oswaldtwistle Immanuel when they were abandoned.

The Red Caps recovered from the loss of Ian Rabagliati for six as skipper Jason Rawson (23 not out) and James Watson (25 not out) took them to a healthy 55-1 from the 15 overs possible.

The game between Edenfield and Great Harwood was abandoned without a ball being bowled with Gincroft Lane unfit.

Congratulations to Baxenden CC a muched deserved title win ! Even though people will say they had the best pro, it takes more than a pro to win a league. It needs 10 TEAM MATES
around him !

Questions must now be asked at Read ? Surely with that side to win nothing and only get 20 bonus points. In my opinion and what I have seen it must surely be down to very poor captaincy ??

Congratulations to the men from Back Lane.

Still think Read have seriously under-performed not to have won it, also as the watchingeye has mentioned, there must be a big question mark against the quality of captaincy.

Congratulations to Baxenden CC on a resounding league victory. I have to give credit where credit is due the best TEAM not paid individuals won the league.

Read-Reader - I was gutted they couldn't get back on at Earby after performing heroics to bowl them out for 59. Still runners up in the league and cup you would have took that at start of the season with the team you had.”

Bit premature there Snake.

Read not runners-up yet, only 3 points in front of Barlick, although can’t see Read losing at home to Ossy.

Well done Bash!! Best team won!! League tables never lie!!
Perhaps we should have a team made from all these dodgy names - 1 Pinch Hitter 2 Snake 3 Watching Eye 4 Read Reader etc etc we may even get a guest appearance from the sultan!!
No sour grapes here!!

I wonder if Mr. Eastham would like to put on record where he feels HIS team fell short this year ? With the quality he had at his disposal does he feel that really a side like that should be second best ?

they are to busy about thinking what they are going to spend all there money on "the watching eye" haha! well done to baxenden, thought it would be barlick or read to win it this year! i think that the determanition and team work has won it for bash!! i think 1 to 9 has scored a fifty for them this year and this is where games will be either won or lost!!!

My tip:-

Read to plummet down league following mass exodus from what I am hearing.

I agree pinch Read might be lucky to finish top 6 with the exodus. Also think Read will finish second due to hurricane Irene landing around the area no play anywhere this weekend.

Warren,Warren,Warren I hope your not nibbling there. Seems like sour grapes to me.

"The" little Whalley "Snake" You cant make 2012 predictions until at least March 2012 Lots of non paid transfer activity and pro search's will happen between now and then Im a number 3 not an opener so warren will probably bat me 9 in his team and bowl me at end to make sure we dont get any bonus points Kammys a gud un and bash seem to find lots of cash (15k) for pro's maybe they should invest in losing the toilet stench as well! Read to be top 3 2012 with a very young side (oops a prediction)

Think you are being far too optimistic Read2012.

Your youngsters not a patch on lads at Cherry and look where they have ended up.

Driver already gone, rumours doing rounds that O’Conner and Jamal off to pastures new and Harvs retiring.

Can’t replace that bunch with kids from 2nds.

I have also heard of this mass exedus at read CC! i predict barlick to do it next year, Baxenden though have also played very good cricket this year and throughly deserve there championship, they seem to be a good set of lads on the field! i expect them to be there about next year with the youngsters they have such as cronshaw waddington, swindles and young nixon at the start of the year! speaking of youngsters now pinch has mentioned do you as supporters and players think that the standard of youngsters is improving in the different cricket clubs?
