Kegg looks for gallons of glory as he leaves Nelson for Barnoldswick

DANNY Kegg is looking forward to an exciting new challenge as he prepares to move into uncharted waters next season.

The 31-year-old stalwart of Lancashire League outfit Nelson will play for Ribblesdale League side Barnoldswick next year – and says he can’t wait for his new challenge.

But Kegg, a classy medium pacer and key batsman, also admits he has a few nerves.

“I don’t know much about the Ribblesdale League as I haven’t played in it before,” he said.

“So I don’t really know what to expect – but it is an exciting challenge.

“A lot of the lads in the Lancashire League say it’s not a great standard while the guys in the Ribblesdale League tell me not to expect an easy ride.

“And people seem to agree that Baxenden are a tremendous outfit who could easily have won the Lancashire League this year.”

Kegg has been part and parcel of the Nelson set-up for two decades and will feel a tinge of sadness when he leaves Seedhill.

But he added: “It’s a new challenge for me and something I am looking forward to immensley.

“Barlick have worked really hard recently to improve the club and they have brought in some new committee members.

“And I don’t think I will be the last player to move to the club over the winter.”

The capture of Kegg is a major coup for Barnoldswick, who are determined to recall their glory days.

“There are a lot of good people there,” he said. “They have had a lot of success in the past with the National knock-out and when the Scotherns and Paul Beech were in their prime.

“It’s sad to see them struggling now – and I hope I can do my bit to lift them up the league.”

Good luck to the lad , he may be in for quite a surprise though . There is some good cricket played in the Ribb League . As stephenh says , many have come from the Lancs league and gone back having proved nothing . Thats when you normally hear the "its not a very good standard" and "the wickets are s**t" comments .
Matt , B`lick may pay money out next season , but its nothing new and time people stopped harping on about it . Or better still , time the league made it an open league and let anyone be paid .

Nuts you are right i would love to play with you again but only at Earby CC, they treat their players a lot better and you get more than 5 fans watching every week, and they dont cheer when your own wickets fall (John Pickup 4 years ago)!!! from my understanding they do have the money to pay more than 1 person but as of yet refuse to follow suit but cant see it being long if all other clubs carry on, they should just open it up like T Osspot says, would certainly get better players and more spectators.

Before Barlick start paying Amateurs,
they should look at getting ONE Professional sorted out, How many did they have as Sub Pros this Season..?? Good job the walls in their clubhouse has plenty of spaces for all the Photographs for 2009 Pro..!!!
I hope Barlick don't go the same way as Settle CC & Skipton CC went when the money dried up & the money men got fed up..!!!

Not sure if this correspondence is suggesting that Barlick are paying Kegg. If so , perhaps they should think again. In the season just gone he scored 120 runs at an average of 9.23 in 22 innings . He bowled 528 overs and took 9 wickets at 44.11 each. I bet the Ribb League is quaking in its boots
