Austin: Should I stay or should I go?

DELIGHTED Ian Austin insists he has not made a decision as to whether he will carry on playing next season – and has no intention of deciding until he has enjoyed a month off.

The former Lancashire legend has led Baxenden to a first Ribblesdale League title in 17 years and the Ramsbottom Cup.

He was disappointed to miss out on the 20/20 Cup on Monday but said: “It’s been a good season and it is what we set out to do.

“I wanted the league, the Ramsbottom Cup and the 20/20 in that order and we have got two of the three.

“We didn’t play well enough – but full credit to Harwood, they played very well.”

The Ribblesdale League rumour mill is churning out suggestions that Austin will quit and continue in equal measure.

But Austin, 43, is playing his cards close to his chest and laughed: “The way I felt the day after the 20/20 after three games in three days, there is no chance.

“But seriously, I am not going to decide until the season is over and I have had a month off.

“I will speak to the chairman and my wife and make a decision then.

“There is no point making a snap decision and regretting it later.

“I just want to work through the last two games and aim for the 250 point mark.

“I think we have deserved the league title and we won’t take it easy now.

“It would be great to reach that – but we are in the hands of the weather.”
