SKIPPER Rob Ince celebrated his 40th birthday in style as he led his Cherry Tree seconds into the quarter-finals of the Lawrenson Cup on Sunday.

Ince, whose side were beaten in their Ribblesdale League Division One derby at Feniscowles on Saturday, bounced back to form against Barnoldswick 24 hours later and piled on the runs at Preston Old Road.

Andrew Robinson hit 44, while Jake Willacy and Anthony Procter both made 34 as Tree posted 238-9.

Barlick’s Adil Khan led their reply admirably and made 61 - but he was one of three victims for Ince as he ensured progress into the last eight.

Brooksbottom seconds matched their first team as they demolished Baxenden for just 44 with Richard Ernill and Tom Booth both taking three wickets en-route to a nine-wicket win, while Burnley Belvedere also progressed as their 139 all out was enough for a 28-run win over Stacksteads.

Holders Clitheroe seconds beat Earby by 38 runs, while Mohammed Zafran crashed 142 as Read seconds demolished Padiham by 142 runs.

Liam Winstanley made 127 as Brinscall beat Feniscowles and Whalley seconds beat Salesbury and John Tarbox claimed six wickets as Settle seconds bowled Ribblesdale Wanderers out for 33.
