Ramsbottom Cup: Barlick set up Bash final

LEAGUE leaders Barnoldswick will play reigning champions Baxenden in the final of the Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale League’s Ramsbottom Cup after they came through their semi-finals yesterday.

Mark Rishton made 59 for Bash as they posted 161 all out at Settle in a repeat of the 2010 final. Stephen Molloy then claimed five wickets as Settle were bowled out for 89.

In the other tie Barnoldswick piled on the runs against Oswaldtwistle Immanuel, who were desperate to reach the showpiece as it is staged on their own New Lane ground.

Barlick posted 235 all out but had a few panics as Immanuel reached 110-3 with 20 overs remaining. However, there was a clatter of wickets and in the end they were all out for 185.

The final will take place on Sunday, July 29.

I wonder what action will be taken by the Ribblesdale League after more disgraceful behaviour by Baxenden CC players . My bet is nothing , free reign to destroy the spirit of the game

Not being able to make the game yesterday and as a neutral, I too would like to know what the Baxenden Bad Boys have been up to?

Just seen the scores on play cricket 160 odd play 80 odd sounds like some very sour grapes from you crixus, looks like you simply weren't good enough. I would like to know what happened. A little food for thought for you though why don't you invest some time/effort on young cricketers rather than playing/relying on dinosaurs and old fossils who have become extinct. You may then get some team spirt not bad behaviour as you say and who knows you might win a semi final actually I doubt it. In summing up why dont you do us all a favour and join the Craven league

Being at the game yesterday, i was appalled at the behaviour of some Baxenden players & supporters, especially the captain who is meant to set an example !!, There was young children watching !. I believe that this man has already served a 2 game ban this season, well i suggest that the league should look at an extend ban after his behaviour yesterday.
SNAKE, i think that you will find that the so called dinosaurs/old fossils can still do a job in this league & apart from these players, settle have a relatively young & promising side that even after the dissapointment yesterday are still challenging in the other 2 competions

It's a real shame Rish hasn't been on to defend his team/mates/club/supp
orters. I hope he's not too embarrased of their actions on Sunday.... I know nothing of what occured but sounds like the usual "banter" that comes with playing at Back Lane a "banter" from the clubhouse which quite frankly has little to do with cricket and is down to "big" men who can't handle a pint of shandys and resort to unsavoury comments and actions which embarrass themselves but do no favours for the image of Baxenden CC

Golden you have summed my point up entirely. Dinosaurs/old fossils can still do a job. While they are still doing a so called job younsters are not being selected and then sack cricket off. You bring younsters through together = Team spirit, you keep rolling out the dinosaurs and they are still stuck in there ways going back to how cricket used to be played in 60's 70's.With talk Like that wouldn't happen when I were a lad and all that BS. I'm afraid times have changed Golden, like I said do us all a favour and apply to craven league.

Quite clearly you know nothing of the settle 1st XI. As
As 7 or more on occasions are all under the age of 25
I highly doubt there are too many teams can say the same

As for Sunday's game it was interesting to read in another local newspaper the desire for the game to be played in good spirits. That's obviously only applies until a decision goes against Baxenden . The dissent shown to the umpire was nothing short of a disgrace

While I'm sure we would all like to see cricket played in the 'right way' with full respect for the 'spirit of the game' you would have to be blind and or stupid/incredibly naive to assume that such things still go on in our game. Unfortunately it seems more and more that cricket and its practitioners are no longer any better than our footballing counterparts. Camaraderie between clubs seems to have replaced with an ugly win at all costs attitude that has infested the game at its very core and runs in certain quarters right through the First XIs down to junior cricket.

Crixus – It would be interesting to know what you said or did at the time, as it seems you are just running to a keyboard to moan about perceived injustices. I wasn't at the game; in fact this is true of the majority of people who read the Telegraph. Without going in details you rush straight in with evocative words like 'disgraceful', hoping to whip up some anti-Baxenden feeling.

Golden Arm – I suspect you have no real argument as you are all too ready to rush out that old chestnut about 'children watching'. I can only assume you have never sworn, raised your voice, said a disparaging word about anyone or anything in front of a child and you are in fact the living embodiment of all things good, pure and holy. Bad behaviour is bad behaviour no matter who it is in front of, you are only mentioning children in the mistaken belief it gives your words more moral weight.

I am fully aware that some of the Baxenden following can use language that at times oversteps the mark a little, but a great many teams in the league would kill for such a large, loyal, free spending and boisterous support. A great deal of the time this is born out of the fact that far too many teams and their fans rock up to Baxenden with a massive superiority complex that is nothing short of rude arrogance (I am looking in a general Yorkshirely Direction with glances at the Ribble Valley here). It seems that Baxenden are an affront to these people just by existing and the fact they are able to compete with the so called bigger teams in the league leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of some.

If the Captain has stepped out of line, then the league or the club itself will hand down punishment, it is not for me or anyone else to say what should or shouldn't be done. All I will say is that by airing this in public we are, as I said earlier reducing our once proud game to the levels of the football gutter. Remember at the end of the day, while we all enjoy winning, cricket is just a game played primarily for enjoyment and its supporters at this level just out to socialise with friends. Stuff happens, grow up, be a man and get on with/over it.

I was at the game as a neturel and was shocked how un sporting settle were or just father Davidson . the only bit of dissent shown by the baxenden players was by the captain who thought the wicket keeper was out but no offensive or ful lamguage was used. However the bash lads was up for the game. Andrew davidson wouldnt face a ball for two minutes as he didnt like something they said to him. He must of had said something to the baxenden players as they were all giving him a bit of stick. Can any of the bash lads clear this up? He also didnt like the cheeky young baxenden bowler who faked to run him out and had to get a wriggle on !! this is a view from the neutruel !!!

Off subject (but isn't everything else). I did find the decision to hold the 20/20 finals day at Great Harwood a bit of a strange one considering the late start to the season at the Cliffe and their untested new drainage system... I was in the area a few hours ago and would suggest a major mopping up session will be the order of the day to try and get any cricket played on there this weekend. Can any Harwood followers shed any light or give us a percentage chance that the 2nd most prestigious day in the Ribblesdale League will not have to be called off because of sub-standard facilities?

Sub standard facilities is a bit harsh! GHCC have had problems with the outfield, mainly due to the wettest May and June in history, as several other clubs have had this year.
The facilities at the club such as bar, function room, nets, bowling green, score box etc...are up there with the best in Lancashire, never mind the Ribblesdale League.

I'm sure everyone at the club will do everything they can to get the ground fit and make it a great occasion.

Let's hope the weather stays fine for Sunday, and good luck to GHCC.I'm hoping to make it up there for the final (whether GHCC are in it or not!).

Village I think you need to go for a hearing test & to the opticians!, as there was foul & offensive language used by a few baxenden players ( mainly the captain ) & I think you'll find it was towards the settle professional & not the settle wicket keeper, who I don't even think was batting at the time !. Good luck with your tests !!
