Red Rose calling is just gr-eight!

Clitheroe Cobras have plenty to smile about this season after no fewer than eight of its youngsters have been selected to represent Lancashire.

Both boys and girls have been picked for county teams from under 10s to under 14s – with Martha Smith named as captain of the girls under 11s. As well as playing regular league matches for the Red Rose county, the Chatburn Road youngsters will also be pitting their wits against other counties in various festivals across the country.

Also selected are Josh Stamford (U10s), Sam Mulligan (U11s), Charlie Dewhurst (U12s) and Sam Jackson (U14s).

Girls who have earned county call-ups are Eleanor Graham, Saphina Stamford and Nicole Harvey – daughter of former Burnley and Lancashire star John Harvey – who will all play for the under 13s.

Cobras Chairman Farouk Hussain said: “We are delighted to have four boys and four girls playing for Lancashire this season.

“I bet there's not many clubs that can claim to have so many youngsters gaining county recognition in one season.

“It's just reward for the dedication and commitment of the young Cobras plus it shows that the coaching set up at the club is certainly ticking all the right boxes.

“Many adults give up their time voluntarily so these young children can improve and become much better players.”
