Australia will begin their defence of the Ashes without their key strike bowler Brett Lee.
Australia captain Ricky Ponting admitted the seamer was "shattered" to be missing out on the first Test after bowling so well in the run-up to the series, but said he hoped the 32-year-old would be back in time for the second Test.
