League have eyes on the sky

FOSTER’S Lancashire League chiefs are keeping their fingers crossed ahead of this weekend to avoid a potential fixture minefield in the flagship Worsley Cup.

All four quarter finals of the famous competition were washed out at the weekend without a ball being bowled and they will now be played this Saturday.

But should the rain intervene again the league executive could be forced into a decision with the semi-finals scheduled for Sunday, June 24.

As it stands the cup ties would be played on nights through next week if they are rained off at the weekend.

That often causes a logistical problem for players and officials and it is a similar story in the Lancashire Telegraph Junior Cup with all the four games also rained off and re-scheduled.

“It would solve a lot of potential problems if the rain stayed away this weekend,” said a league spokesman.
