Farragher back in Bacup charge

NEW Bacup skipper Tim Farragher believes his lowly charges can spring a big surprise tomorrow and look to end the stunning start to the season of reigning Foster’s Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse.

Farragher, Lanehead skipper two years ago, has stepped up into the role again with David Warren struggling for fitness with a back injury – but he faces the toughest test of all as he takes his men to Liverpool Road for their game with unbeaten leaders Lowerhouse a fortnight after the two sides met in the Worsley Cup quarter-final.

That game was won by Lowerhouse and Farragher admitted: “It’s a really tough game, they are a really good side and we will have to play at our very best. They beat us in the cup the other week and it would be great to try and get a spot of revenge for that.”

Farragher was more than happy to return to captaincy as bowler Warren struggled with the injury and he added: “Wazza wanted to concentrate on getting back to fitness and form.

“When things are not going right for you and you are injured it is hard but he will come back.”

Bacup make the trip to Burnley without Warren and field Leyland professional Brett Pelser as sub-pro and Farragher added: “If you are going to try and upset the champions there’s no better pro to have than Brett.

“He has filled in before and we have Dale Deeb of Blackpool on Sunday and we know with them and guys like Darwen pro Shaun De Kock that they aren’t just pitching up to pick up the cash.”

Lowerhouse are 25 points ahead of second-placed Accrington, who go to East Lancashire.

Three of the top four clubs are from Hyndburn and Enfield and Church will be looking to keep up the pressure.

Third-placed Enfield host Colne, while Church go to Rawtenstall, who are at the foot of the table.

Burnley have a new skipper with Bharat Tripathi taking over from Steve Brunt. Tripathi leads his side for the first time tomorrow as Haslingden visit Turf Moor, while Rishton entertain Nelson is what promises to be a good game.
