Shock as Nelson captain quits for Barnoldswick

NELSON skipper Khurram Nazir has quit Seedhill in order to sign for Ribblesdale League outfit Barnoldswick.

Nazir joins another former Nelson all-rounder, Danny Kegg, at the ambitious Victory Park club.

Nazir, who progressed through the youth set-up at Nelson, will also act as a coach.

It is with great amusement I read the comments about Barnoldswick CC's recruitments for the 2010 season, especially from certain Earby players( I sense the green eyed monster has reared it's ugly head). Many years ago my father tried to sign a player from Earby,we made him a good offer,he seemed very keen, but a week later he regretably informed us he wouldn't be joining us. The reason? His wife wouldn't let him. The player? Stephen Hipgrave. Draw your own conclusions gentlemen.

No Rishy I wouldn't dream of playing for the enemy...!!!

Sir Claude, Green Eyed Monster..???
I think you have got it wrong..???
Don't you mean the Jolly Green Giant..???
Because it looks like all you will be growing on Victory Park is CORN...!!!
Although there are plenty of Barlick players, team managers (self appointed..?) to act as Scarecrows to keep the Birds & motorbikes off the outfield..!!!
So the grass may grow...!!! I hope it does..!!!

Look what happened to "Harker's Millions" at Settle CC with Jeff Ellis "not enjoying" the Ribblesdale League. Isn't it funny how people make comments but yet they have to do it behind a false username. Very early to speculate about next season but im sure whatever happens the local derby will be a cracker

You still haven't worked out who I am yet, have you Stephen? I think your memory is failing you. Must be your age.Talking of which, are there any decent young bowlers at Earby, or will you still be lumbering in with the new ball?As regards the ground, the idea is to get it as level as possible, something Earby will never be. You should be pleased with what we are doing Stephen, you've moaned enough about Barlick's ground over the last few years. p.s I think Matt Garner should go back to school to learn how to spell."somet"??? deary me.

No Sir Claude, I haven't worked out who you are..??? But obviously you must need to be an alias..??
It would be very brave if you came out of the closet..!!!
Yes we have plenty of young bowlers & yes I will still be trundling in with any ball, just like I did in the Cup against you this year, oh I nearly forgot I got your pro out when he was 100..!!! I think we beat you that day..!!! Not bad for an old un..!!!
We seem to have an abundance of young cricketers who seem to be doing quite well for us... and if I'm not mistaken quite a few are from the town of Barlick..!!!
I presume they came to us because you had such a fantastic Junior set up..??? NOT...!!!
It seems a shame you have to import coaches to coach your youngsters next season..!!!
What's up with Barlick Coaches..??? Oh dear I forgot Tyrer coaches left Barlick ages ago...!!!
Also how low can you get ..??? Trying to poach a 13 year old we have coached for 5 years to go back to Barlick....!!!!

Matt Garner says...
10:49am Wed 21 Oct 09

Ha ha tyrer coaches, quality Herbie!! I tell you "SOMET" Sir Claude i wish i could go back to school "COZ" then i could be as good as you at putting comments on "ERE". Who do you think you are Jack the ripper??? nobody gives a **** who you are but i would have a good guess that you cant play cricket. just a wind-up merchant. It's good to see they are making an effort to improve the ground but is this going to attract more than the 3 wise monkeys sat in front of the scratting shed?? hmmm thought not.

Congratulations on your award..!!!
You have had a good year on & off the field..??? Going to be a Dad too..!!!
It's great to see home grown, local talent doing well...!!!
We just put the finishing touches to your talent when you played at Earby..!!!

Good to see the banter flying even though its only October.

Back to this story, can anyone name me a player who has come from the 'far superior' Lancashire League and done anything, save for our very own rotund slogger - sorry Russ - 'Good Slogger'?

Many have gone and gone with their tail between their legs. Jeff Ellis is my favourite susperstar to have packed up with his tail between his legs!!

good question stu cant think of many what about people who have left ribb league and done better in lancs league cappy from bash was playing in our seconds before he went to burnley and has excelled ,abdul bisoodwall to a certain extent .herbie excelled in our league after coming form lancs you owe me a beer for that herbs

A few suggestions : Stephen Hipgrave, Jonathan Harvey, Warren Eastham, Terry Little, Paul Turner, Ian Austin, and Russ.
The new guys won't find it easy though.

Rishy, the difference was I started in the Ribb League, so I knew how competitive it was, but thanks for the comment, I will buy you a pint..!!!
I think the top 5 or 6 clubs in the Ribb League would do well in the Lancs League..!!!
I don't think they have the class pro's they had years ago, Like Collis King, Steve Waugh,Kapil Dev, Hartley Alleyne, the list goes on..!!!
Maybe now they play too many Tests or Clubs just can't afford them..??

One of the Best amateurs that played in both Leagues in my opinion was Ian Clarkson...!!! His batting records at Earby & Nelson speak for themseves..!!!
He started his career at Earby, then went to Nelson & then came back to Earby as pro, when we won league in his first season..!!!

haha - the old "bombay mix" tale! That tale will "go down" in ribb league folklore!
Good to see Barlick stronger next year - looks like "harry garlicks" must be selling enough tellys to stick a few more bob into the pot!
Looking forward to the league dinner - nothing better than a catch-up over a few beers while Arthur tells his 35minute joke!

Amazing what can happen when you move clubs, im not here to slag Barlick off but personal attacks against players??? water off a "DUCKS" back ha ha. now if you had criticised my batting i'd have gone with you but 34 victims in a season aint bad for a "scarecrow" Which fan are you? number 1,2 or 3?

barlickfanclub says...
12:42pm Thu 29 Oct 09

ha ha you make me laugh not out to slag barlick off thats all you do Matthew the reason why you went to earby was because you couldnt get in the team and sulked. That was because you didnt no which end to hold the bat.And i have been on the stats on the website and your not on the first page. And i think most of the victims was in 20 20 and you dont count that. And as for clubs i dont think Earby are that clever,Ive just found out michael rawson won the 2nd team averages and you didnt give him the trophy all i can say is pathetic is that because hes left your team for ours. And if you dont belive that get on the stats!im a loyal fan so work it out who i am?

ps is earby club a swingers club????you buy one you get on free!!!

Matt Garner says...
2:17pm Thu 29 Oct 09

Same goes here as with "sir claude" im not really interested in who you are, maybe if your support was as loyal at the ground as on a website then Barlick wouldn't have to resort to paying for "coaches" to get them back into being a "big" club. Lets be honest if Nuts hadn't have stayed loyal last year you would have been a laughing stock, yet again. Roll on next season, pretty sure we'll beat you in all 3 competitions just like this year.shame

Barlick fan club, your having a laugh!!!!
Please get your facts right.!!!!
Michael Rawson didn't win 2nd team bowling, because like you said "It's only League games that count towards any prizes"
Also please could you make sure he pays his subs for 2009 at Earby or he isn't going anywhere??? Although you are welcome to him, he has been telling that Barlick have offered him No6 batting spot & 1st change bowler.???
I'm sure everyone is quaking in their boots???
At least I will be guaranteed 2 wickets bowling offspin...!!!!
It's just a pity you & Sir claude hide your identity..!!!

34 victims helped the mighty Earby Cricket Club secure a Lancashire knockout spot, reach the semi-finals of the 20/20 cup and also the semi-finals of the Ramsbottom cup(disposing of Barnoldswick CC along the way) not bad for a "scarecrow" ha ha shhhhh
