RAWTENSTALL may have only sneaked into the last four of the Moorhouses Twenty20 competition but they will now be bidding to get their name on the trophy for the first time in the club’s history.

The Worswick Memorial Ground men sneaked into second on the final night of the group action when they defeated Bacup and Ramsbottom lost to group winners Enfield.

That propelled Rawtenstall into the semi-finals on run rate after three sides finished with eight points from four games and a meeting with defending Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse tonight.

House topped their group with just one defeat from six matches and will be eager to reach their third successive final having lost 12 months ago to Church.

Charlie Cottam’s men will also be keen to bring some of their short format form to the league having stuttered in recent weeks and slipped to fourth in the Lancashire League table.

For Rawtenstall, this season’s Twenty20 run equals their best performance in the competition after they also reached the last four in 2008 when they were beaten by Burnley.

But, having reached the final of the Worsley Cup last season, when again Rawtenstall lost out to Burnley, there is a hope that the club can break their 30-year major trophy duck stretching back to a 1985 Lancashire Telegraph Cup success.
