Worsley Cup: Weather wipes out quarter-finals

THE rain has wrecked today's Foster's Worsley Cup quarter-finals with all of the four scheduled ties abandoned.
Nelson's tie Accrington and Church's home clash with Haslingden were called off in the morning, while the East Lancashire v Enfield tie also fell victim to the dreadful weather following a noon pitch inspection of a sodden Alexandra Meadows.
With a reserve date for games available next Saturday, Nelson skipper Neil Thompson and his Accrington counterpart Jimmy Hayhurst took the decision shortly after 11am to abandon.
That was the second game of the day to fall to the weather after the Church v Haslingden tie was called off at 10am.
The battle of the Boks between East Lancashire pro Ockert Erasmus and Enfield paid man Werner Coetsee went at noon and shortly before the scheduled start time of 1pm the Lowerhouse v Bacup game was washed out.
The full programme of Lancashire Telegraph Junior Cup quarter finals is also off with the Enfield v Accrington, Haslingden v Burnley, Ramsbottom v Lowerhouse and Rishton v Church second team clashes postpined.
All ties will now be played next Saturday, June 16.
