LANCASHIRE League chiefs have secured another high-profile sponsorship deal as they look to make the 120th anniversary season something to celebrate.

A fortnight after landing the boost of brewing giants Heineken UK sponsoring both the league and Worsley Cup under their Foster’s branding, Burnley brewery Moorhouse’s have been unveiled as sponsors of the popular Twenty20 competition.

That is a huge boost for the competition, which runs on Friday nights over seven weeks between May and early July, and the deal will run for the next three years.

Lancashire League chairman Mike Bibby is naturally delighted with the deal, especially as it involves an independent company from right in the middle of league territory.

He said: “Moorhouse’s have a long and proud history and being based in Burnley, are right in the heartland of the member clubs of the Lancashire League.

“We look forward to working with the directors and staff of Moorhouse’s in promoting their business and working together to ensure our League Twenty20 competition goes from strength to strength over the next three years.”

Moorhouse’s were formed in 1865 by William Moorhouse with the real ales attracting admiring fans across the country and winning CAMRA gold awards at festivals on a regular basis.

Ramsbottom struck gold in the Twenty20 in the last two seasons - with Burnley winning the prize in 2009.

As a result of the deal the competition will now be known as the Moorhouse’s Brewery Lancashire Cricket League 20/20 competition.

This year the competition starts on May 25 with the final set to take place on Friday, July 6. As in previous years it features three groups of five teams with Ribblesdale League outfit Edenfield joining the 14 Lancashire League clubs.

Groups: Group A: Accrington, Church, East Lancashire, Enfield, Rishton Group B: Bacup, Edenfield, Haslingden, Ramsbottom, Rawtenstall Group C: Burnley, Colne, Lowerhouse, Nelson, Todmorden
