LANCASHIRE League outfit Haslingden have put down a major marker of their intent ahead of the 2012 season by sealing the sought after signature of young New Zealander Harry Boam.

The Kiwi prospect, who turns 21 next month, starred for Ribblesdale League outfit Settle in 2010 and was linked with a host of Lancashire League clubs for this season.

However, he opted to remain in New Zealand and as a result has established himself as a regular for Canterbury.

And now the Bentgate outfit, who have employed Phill Hayes as paid man for the past three years, are starting to build for the next campaign.

“This is an excellent signing for us,” said Haslingden chairman Mark Rothwell.

“Harry is a highly thought of and promising all rounder and is extremely keen to develop his game and sees the Lancashire League as the ideal place.

“We feel that Harry will fit in well with our young team at Haslingden.”

Last year at Settle Boam, who was born in England before moving to New Zealand as a child, scored 972 runs and claimed 72 wickets in the league and also helped the Dalesmen to the final of the Ramsbottom Cup, where they were beaten by Baxenden.
