CHAMPIONS Lowerhouse capped off their dream campaign with their own piece of history as they became the first team in the Lancashire League to win all their home games in a season.

Charlie Cottam’s men knew ahead of their Liverpool Road clash with runners-up Accrington that a win would see them set the record of 13 wins from 13 home league matches.

And on a day of celebration, they went where no team has gone before to wrap-up their perfect campaign.

Batting first the House posted 164-9 with good contributions from Jonathan Finch (38) and substitute professional Anwar Ali (25.

That was too many for Accrington, who were 63-6 at the halfway stage, and they slumped to 103 all out with Ali claiming 4-24 and Finch 3-24.

As well as completing the perfect home record, no team made 200 against the champions all season and they also racked up their record points tally of 248.

It was also a landmark day for Ramsbottom skipper Jonathan Fielding, who became the first man to claim 100 wickets in back-to-back seasons since Alf Pollard 92 years ago.

He claimed eight more victims with his brilliant left-arm spin as Ramsbottom bowled Enfield out for 96 - and he finished the campaign with 106 wickets, Ramsbottom won the game by four wickets.

Fielding claimed the remarkable figures of 8-14 from 16 overs to pass his personal ton.

Simon Newbutt finished as the top amateur batsman as he made 32 in Todmorden's three wicket win at Haslingden, pro Qaiser Abbas rounding off a great season with seven wickets and 77 to lead his side home.

Saeed Anwar hit 64 and skipper Craig Fergusson 66 as Church piled up 240 all out against Burnley in wicketkeeper Sam Tucker's final game for the club.

Tucker is moving to work in Dubai and could bow out on a high as Anwar claimed 7-77 to bowl Burnley out for 170.

Bacup finished on a high as they beat East Lancashire by one wicket at Lanehead, Bottom club Colne ended their season with a one-wicket loss at the hands of Rawtenstall at The Horsfield, the visitors just squeezing past Colne’s 136 all out.

Andrew Payne made 50 not out and Keith Roscoe dug in for one not out as the pair shared an unbroken 30-run stand for the last wicket.

And Rishton made it two wins from the weekend as they beat Nelson by 12 runs at Blackburn Road.
