LANCASHIRE head coach Peter Moores has signed a two-year contract extension with the county champions.

The former England coach has committed himself to stay at Old Trafford until 2014, having guided the Red Rose county to their first outright title in 77 years in his third season at the helm.

"I am really pleased to commit to Lancashire in what is a very exciting time for the club," Moores said. "Since arriving here the players and staff have been fantastic and I have enjoyed my time immensely. I am looking forward to working with everyone at the club over the coming years to try and build on the success of last season."

Lancashire's cricket director Mike Watkinson added: "Three years ago we restructured the cricket department which gave us the opportunity to create a role for a dedicated head coach who was able to concentrate on the development and performance of the professional squad and to have an input in the junior development programme.

"Peter already proved that he was one of the most successful coaches in cricket and since he's been at Old Trafford he has brought the very best out of a largely home grown squad which culminated in our first outright County Championship title in 77 years.

"I am delighted that we are able to continue with him heading our coaching team over the coming years."
