TABLE-TOPPERS Accrington aim to make it three wins from three and enjoy the derby day bragging rights in the Lancashire League on Sunday.

Ross Brown’s side have won their opening two fixtures and sit on top of the pile, level on maximum points with defending champions Clitheroe, Ramsbottom and newcomers Walsden.

Accy have the chance to extend that record to three from three when they make the short trip to Enfield on Sunday for the derby at Dill Hall Lane.

And Brown is keen to turn the form book around and enjoy some success in a fixture Enfield have dominated in recent years.

“I have never actually won a game against them,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It would be good to get a win and keep up our good start.

“It is the first fixture we look for with it being the derby and it does mean a lot to the players.

“We all want to win it and there is certainly a rivalry there but afterwards we all get along.”

Last season’s corresponding fixture was washed out but Accrington suffered an embarrassing defeat on home soil when they were bowled out for just 38 as Enfield cantered to victory.

And despite being top of the table, skipper Brown, although pleased with his side’s strong start to the campaign, is not getting carried away with the early stages of the season.

He said: “We have had two good results and have managed to come out on the right side of them but there is a long way to go yet.

“We certainly don’t expect to be top of the table come the end of the season but we will just see how long we can keep the run going.”

Before the derby fixture, Accrington have a Worsley Cup first round tie against Burnley at Thorneyholme Road tomorrow.

It is a repeat of last season’s first round tie when Accy upset the holders to end Burnley’s stranglehold on the competition.

And Brown is hoping for a repeat performance but knows it will be a tough ask.

“They are a really strong side and will expect to do well in the cup and the league,” Brown added.

“But we beat them last season and the aim will be to give them a good game.

“We’ve got to try and keep the momentum going.”

Accrington will be without Andrew Greenwood this weekend but otherwise will be at full strength.
