Chorley got off the mark in the Northern League at the third attempt with a one wicket win over Netherfield.

Their nail-biting victory coincided with the delayed debut of impressive South African pace bowler pro Friedel de Wet, who exploited a slow, seaming pitch at Windsor Park to capture 6-39, after Netherfield had been put in to bat.

He received excellent support from Keiron McCullagh, whose 11 overs included seven maidens on his way to 2-18.

The visitors' total of 87 would have been much lower but for some late resistance from Scott Clement (12) and Marc Hadwin (18).

In reply, Chorley were soon struggling themselves and subsided to 52-7 before the lower order came to the rescue.

Ian Mawdesley made a painstaking 21, before Rex Purnell shepherded the tail to a one-wicket victory with a vital 22 not out.

There were an incredible 30 maiden overs in the Chorley innings, as the home side required 55.3 overs to make 88, Clement finishing with a remarkable 4-10 from 16 overs containing 11 maidens.
