The Ashes Blog: We need to learn from Perth pounding

IT is safe to say English cricket has seen better days.

After dominating the Ashes so far the feeling is suddenly it has all gone wrong heading to the Melbourne Test on Boxing Day.

Sure the Aussies have their tails up after the demolition in Perth and now it is a real test of team England to bounce back.

Maybe we were too quick to write off Australia when in truth anyone who knows an Aussie also knows that they don't do quitting - and hearing Ricky Ponting talking of his broken finger and saying "It's not abad one to break" can only back that up.

So its 1-1 with two to play, game on as they say.

Just as long as we learn our lessons for perhaps getting carried away we will be okay, hopefully.

Whatever happens though it will be special.

Lets face it, England have been hoisted up by their own petard.

They actually believe the media and think they are a good cricket team. But they are not. Look at the bowling, especially Finn. Wide, short,...four! Short, pulled,....four or even 6. They (the bowlers) had them at 69-5 in the first innings and then proceded to bowl absolute rubbish, thereby enabling the Aussies to get to a reasonable figure.

The batsmen then went on to throw away all their wickets playing shots that should not even grace Highams Playing fields.

They simply are not good enough, and try as they might, lessons learned will never amount to anything. So lets stop kidding ouirselves that England are a first class team, they are not.
