The Ashes Blog: Records are nice and we are on top - but...
6:36am Monday 29th November 2010 in Ashes blog
By Matt Donlan, Sports reporter
IT was record breaking, it was spectacular and there can be no finer sight for an Englishman than Aussies spending a couple of days chasing leather.
England's astonishing second innings performance, 517-1 declared for anyone who missed it, saw the records tumble and Australian spirits dip to levels equal to the current UK temperatures.
Yes, it is nice to be an Englishman today - but we need to keep grounded.
We have only drawn the first Test in Brisbane. We go to Adelaide with the series tied 0-0.
As nice as it was to see Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott rack up the records over the past couple of days we need to bat better in the first innings on Friday. Had we made more than 260 all out back on Thursday then we could have been toasting a win today.
So enjoy the moment and give any Aussies you may know a spot of stick - but be prepared for a battle ahead.
This isn't over yet.
