Davies look for England success

DARWENS Alex Davies and the rest of his England U19 team-mates will qualify for the knockout stages of the ICC Under 19 World Cup if they beat Nepal this morning – but the mood in the dressing room is that the Lions cannot afford to underestimate the minnows.

After bouncing back from their opening defeat to hosts Australia with victory over Ireland, Adam Ball’s side know a win against Nepal will see them advance into the last eight of the high-profile tournament as Group A runners-up.

Nepal have lost both matches in the competition, but Nottinghamshire all-rounder Brett Hutton appreciates England will have to be on their guard at Endeavour Park in Townsville.

“It’s massive. We have still got to go out there and win it, although looking at it we are favourites to beat them,” he said.

“Cricket is a funny game. We have got to back ourselves to get in there and assess the quarter-final.

“We didn’t know anything about them until we saw them on TV the other day. “We got a bit of footage from the other game they played so we have had a look at them already.

“I dont think there is any more pressure than any other game. Everyone is upbeat and feeling good.”

Hutton was part of England’s 15-man squad that travelled to Australia for a quadrangular one-day series in April.

That tour gave the Young Lions a feel for the conditions Down Under, which Hutton believes has helped.

“I think the fact we have been here before and seen the pitches and grounds has helped us to prepare better and know what to expect,” he said. “It wasn’t exactly the same to what it was when we were here before, but it’s similar so it helps.”
