Ribblesdale League round-up: Barlick move further ahead despite the rain

BARNOLDSWICK extended their lead at the top of the Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale League to 31 points – despite suffering the disappointment of seeing a fifth game of the season lost to the weather on Saturday.

Barlick were well set against Edenfield when the rain came down at Victory Park but their disappointment was tempered by the news from Back Lane as Read were beaten by Baxenden in the league’s game of the day.

Mohammed Jamal top scored with 55, while skipper Kyle O’Connor opened the batting and made 46 with professional Jordan Clark adding a solid 44 as Read posted 193-6 from their 45 overs.

Rain reduced the Baxenden target to 173 and they were well on their way when professional Kamran Younas hit 60 at the top of the order before a clatter of wickets put the game back in the balance.

However Andy Caunce used all his experience to make 28 and Danny Holland hit an unbeaten 25 as Bash got home to move within three points of Read.

Barlick were in fine form against Edenfield as they piled up 234-6 and then reduced the Gincroft Lane outfit to 41-3 when the heavens opened, while Clitheroe ensured their woes of a fortnight ago are all but a distant memory as they beat Padiham at Chatburn Road as the visitors fell 16 runs short after Paul Gaskell’s men had been bowled out for 152.

Great Harwood warmed up for their ECB National T20 quarter-final with an impressive win over Settle at The Cliffe.

Paul Houldsworth’s men dominated the game from the off and looked to be making short work of proceedings when they reduced the Dalesmen to 38-4. However they staged something of a recovery to be finally bowled out for 134.

Rain saw the Harwood target reduced to 125 and they duely got home with four wickets in hand as professional Syed Shahabuddin made a half century.

Lee Kearsley’s 65 not out was the mainstay of Whalley’s 168-9 in their match with Oswaldtwistle Immanuel at Station Road.

That looked an imposing total and when Simon Gorton got to work with the ball the target became even more distant for Immanuel.

He claimed 6-41 as Immanuel slipped to 115 all out.

Ribblesdale Wanderers chased a rain reduced target of 149 to beat Earby by six wickets at The Applegarth, while Salesbury claimed a notable win over Cherry Tree at Ribchester Road as they got home with six wickets in hand with professional Susantha Pradeep hitting a classy 84 to lead his side across the line in the match.

Why all this hatred for the league exec, am I wrong when I say it's the club reps who voted on this issue and the previous issue. Plus rules are rules and they were applied when northern were voted out of the senior division, so what is the difference now?

What about Cherry Tree few weeks back?? They cancelled a game due to a "Olympic Fun Day" but no action is being taken???

Feel sorry for Padiham CC. They are being used as a Scapegoat to hide the fact the Management Executives are out of touch.

Never happened in my day!

Good Call Spen
How about some important issues are debated at the monthly league meetings rather than nonsense like this . Start with the future proposals for the league .
Come on all that is required here is to replay the 3rds game at a date suitable for both clubs . Good luck to all at Padiham CC with this madness .
Bring back spangles Spen and all would be fine and possibly put Nettlebed in charge of things . He would sort things out . What would the great Brian Crabtree have made of all this ?
Cheers Ted

I run the social side at Cherry Tree CC and the players did not cancel their cricket match due to the event I organised back in February - this date was chosen because our club had no match on at club that day. We only had 6 players available as most of them were on a school trip. The cricket was not cancelled because of the olympic fun day as this was only aimed at local school children and our Junior section - the oldest child to take part was 11 years old and they are not allowed to play senior cricket at that age. Nobody from our 3rds came to the ground on the day - I presume no action has taken place because someone had looked into the facts first and not just come to their own conclusion
