Barlick sweat as Nutter faces race

BARNOLDSWICK head into a big weekend of league and cup action tomorrow – but the Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale League leaders are sweating over the fitness of their skipper Matt Nutter.

The batsman has been hospitalised this week after contracting cellulitis in his arm but he hasn’t given up hope of leading his men tomorrow when they face Clitheroe in the league or on Sunday when Oswaldtwistle Immanuel visit Victory Park in the semi-final of the Ramsbottom Cup.

Nutter has been in both the Lancaster Royal Infirmary and Airedale Hospital for treatment and he admitted: “I am 50-50 at the moment.

“It’s not looking good but I’ll do my best to play.”

Nutter picked up the infection through a scratch on his arm and his loss would be a big blow to the leaders as they aim to stretch their aleady healthy 22-point lead over Read when Clitheroe roll into town.

Kyle O’Connor’s Read moved into second last week when they beat Baxenden and look to continue their pursuit of Barlick with a clash with Ribblesdale Wanderers.

Andy Caunce’s Baxenden bid to bounce back from their loss at Read with a Back Lane clash with Salesbury, while Settle look to warm up for their Ramsbottom Cup semi-final with Baxenden with a trip to Cherry Tree.

Great Harwood are at home to Padiham, while Earby play host to Oswaldtwistle Immanuel and Richard Palmer’s Whalley hope to end their recent poor run and claim their first league win since May when the league’s bottom club Edenfield head to Station Road.
