SETTLE captain Tom Davidson praised his side’s character in demonstrating nerves of steel to preserve their 100 per cent start to the 2018 Ribblesdale League season.

The defending champions looked in danger of ending their winning streak when they were 119-9 chasing Ribblesdale Wanderers’ 136 all out. But Jack Harrison carried his bat to reach 44 not out, and along with Josh Mallinder’s seven saw Settle home by one wicket with seven balls to spare.

“It was too close,” said Davidson. “We should never have let it get to that stage so it was very pleasing to get the win.

“We were staring at a first defeat so it shows how much character we’ve got to pull it back. It meant a lot to the lads to win.”

Whalley went into Sunday’s games unbeaten but Cherry Tree put a stop to their 100 per cent run.

Whalley batted first and Sam Sweeney’s 64 contributed to them making 175 before being bowled out. Stefan Klopper took 5-59 and Mark Hadfield 3-51 for Cherry Tree.

In reply, Jack Willacy (50) and Stefan Klopper put on 82 for the second wicket. Klopper ended with 71 not out to see Cherry Tree home by six wickets with 11 overs to spare.

Oswaldtwistle scored over 300 for the second time this season, and again Shuban Khajuria led the way with 146 off only 73 balls - including 10 fours and 12 sixes - in a total of 331-9 against Feniscowles, who were bowled out for 155.

Niall Heyes took 5-45.

Being bowled out for 57 in only 25 overs meant an early finish for Euxton, and defeat, at Padiham.

Waqar Rafique was the only batsman to make double figures, with 16. Toby Burrows was the chief destroyer with 5-30, supported by Nathan Whitehead, who took 3-3.

Thomas Ryland was in a rush to get the game over with 45 off 31 balls as Padiham won by 10 wickets in just nine overs.

Baxenden met Salesbury in what proved to be a nail biting match. Baxenden were bowled out for 121, with Alex Coleman top scoring with 48. Josh Bristol took 4-27. Salesbury got over the winning line in the last over with the last pair at the wicket thanks to 51 not out from Peter Richardson.

Barnoldswick were expecting more than their 196-8 on a fast outfield and flat wicket, but Sehan Weerasinghe took 5-64.

Brinscall got off to an excellent start but three quick wickets put the game in the balance. However, an unbeaten partnership of 73 between Sehan Weerasinghe and Sam MacLachlan saw Brinscall home in the last two overs.

Read’s home game against Earby will be played later in the season as Read played their National Village Cup match.
