THE Ribblesdale Cricket League’s Twenty20 Cup competition is up and running.

Teams are split in to two group with the winners and runners-up guaranteed a home draw in the quarter finals with the two best third/fourth placed teams also joining them.

Group One is made up of Barnoldswick, Brinscall, Cherry Tree, Earby, Euxton, Feniscowles and Salesbury.

Baxenden, Padiham, Read, Ribblesdale Wanderers, Settle and Whalley contest Group Two.

In Group One, Cherry Tree hosted Barnoldswick and it was the visitors who batted first and posted a score of 133-5.

Matt Haynes (23) and N Ahmed (21) got them off to a good start but then lost wickets and were grateful for a captain’s innings from Jonny Beach who made an unbeaten 40.

The total looked a little below par but Cherry Tree lost Mark Hadfield in the first over and the game was in the balance thanks to an excellent opening spell of 3-14 from Josh Butler.

Louis Ferreria’s 38 kept Cherry Tree in the hunt. However it was left to the sixth wicket partnership of Kelan Florentine (28 no) and Nas Iqbal (10 no) to see Cherry home with eight balls to spare.

Salesbury were up against Earby.

Earby batted first and got off to a steady start, with Lee Parkinson making 29, however they lost wickets on a regular basis and were grateful for Benjamin Cocker’s 19, to enable them to make 87 all out.

Max Wyn-Jones took 3-16, but the star of the bowling was Liam Parkinson who had the remarkable figures of 3-5 off his four overs. Hashen Ramanayake with 36 no, ensured that Salesbury reached their target with six overs to spare.

Feniscowles batted first against in front of an excellent crowd and were all out for 109. Euxton reached their target with six wickets in hand and three overs to spare.
