IT was a day to remember for Burnley who received the Lancashire League trophy at Turf Moor after beating Todmorden.

The visitors made 178-8 in their 50 overs, with professional Tharanga Paranavitana hitting 52, while Chris Holt took 3-45 and Bharat Tripathi 3-31.

It was double delight for the Turf Moor outfit who also won the Second XI league after victory at Todmorden.

Ramsbottom were in pole position to claim the Holland Cup on the final day, but they slipped to defeat to Nelson at Acre Bottom to see their lead eroded.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat Ramsbottom found themselves in trouble early on and never recovered, eventually being bowled out for just 72 with 20 overs still remaining.

Ramsbottom had 64-6 at the halfway point but lost their final four wickets for just three runs and they knew then the writing was on the wall, with captain Neil Thompson taking four wickets for Nelson, while Richard Meade took three and Lewis Hillman two.

Nelson lost a couple of early wickets but 27 from Harrison Phelan and an unbeaten 35 from Ryan Canning saw them to a four wicket victory.

That left Enfield in pole position to claim the Holland Cup and they made no mistake with a four wicket win against Rishton.

Rishton could only managed 158 all out, collapsing from a position of strength at 83-3.

The Royals were 36-2 at one point in their response but they managed to steady the ship thanks to another fine knock from sub professional Alviro Petersen.

The Lancashire batsman and former South Africa Test star, fresh from a magnificent 187 last week, made an unbeaten 52 this week to help Enfield over the line with something to spare to spark to joyous scenes at Dill Hall Lane.

At The Worswick Memorial Ground all eyes were on Rawtenstall’s Andy Riley, retiring after 17 years in the game.

It proved to be a fairytale send-off for the Rocky stalwart, who is nicknamed Bomber, as he made an unbeaten 38, his highest league score for eight years, as Lowerhouse were beaten by four wickets.

Lowerhouse managed 157 all out batting first, but were grateful to even reach that total after a mid-innings collapse left them 94-8, with Lewis Marsden’s 26 down the order managing to salvage a reasonable total.

But despite picking up wickets at regular intervals it was the perfect goodbye for Riley, and also for Brett Pelser, who leaves the club after three years to join Horwich.

Church claimed victory over Haslingden to finish fifth and secure a place in the LCB Cup next season.

Haslingden made 211-6, but Church got off to the perfect start in response with a partnership of 60 for the first wicket.

Bilal Abbas made 37, Jack Gaskill an unbeaten 23 and Levi Wolfenden 78 not out as Church got home by six wickets.

Accrington professional Ockert Erasmus passed 1,000 runs for the season as he helped his side to a four wicket victory at East Lancs.

The home side could manage just 162 for 5 in their innings and Accrington reached drinks at 75-3 and continued their serene progress to claim 10 points and sixth place in the table.
