LANCASHIRE League legend Keith Roscoe says he has no plans to hang up his spikes.

The Rawtenstall veteran passed 50 wickets in a season for the 17th time in last weekend’s 33 runs victory over Nelson.

The 53-year-old spin king joked: “I’m not in the full flush of youth anymore – I’m a lot nearer to claiming my pension book than my 21st birthday – but I’m not going to retire.

Cricket has been part of my life for 40 years and the game has been very kind to me, so I’m already looking to next season.”

He added: “I once retired for six weeks and I didn’t enjoy that one bit.”

Last season Roscoe claimed his 100th five wicket haul in the league for Rawtenstall.

And Roscoe re-wrote the league’s record books again this month when he put a huge dent in second placed Ramsbottom’s title hopes – his 5-12 haul meaning he had completed a five-wicket haul against every team in the league.

After last season’s mid-table finish, Roscoe reckons Rawtenstall can claim a top four berth.

“The aim is to get a Lancashire Cup place and I think we are capable of that,” he said.

“The boys play with tremendous commitment and Joe McCluskie and our professional, Brett Pelser, have played a huge role.

“We’ve just lacked consistency.”

Roscoe, who also plays over 50s cricket for Lancashire, has been chosen for an England over 50s side to face Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and India in Sri Lanka in February.

He added: “It was great to be asked to play, and a great honour.”

Rawtenstall will line up a double header against Accrington and Bacup this weekend – but Roscoe has no doubt where the 2015 title is headed.

“Burnley are the best team in the league and they will win it,” he said. “They are a special side with a great blend.

“Ramsbottom have put up a great fight this season but Burnley will lift the silverware next month.”
