JAMES Hayhurst fired Accrington to a much-needed Lancashire League win over Church yesterday.

Hayhurst took 5-41 as Church were skittled out for just 69 with only three visiting batsman managing to reach double figures.

Hayhurst removed Church professional Usman Tariq for just three and the visitors were in real trouble at 12-4.

But Sam Holt dug in and made 21 and some lower order resistance from Sam Tucker (15) and Kamran Basharat (10) helped Church up to 69.

Ockert Erasmus, Jake Clarke and David Ormerod were also in the wickets for the home side.

In reply, Kieran Grimshaw fell quickly to give Church hope but Erasmus and Clarke steered Accrington over the line for the loss of just two wickets as they reached their target inside 19 overs.

Basharat and Tariq were the Church wicket takers.

Elsewhere Todmorden were in fine form with the bat as they racked up 320-5 against Enfield.

That was always likely to be enough and so it proved as the visitors were dismissed for 222 to hand Tod a 98-run victory.

It was a masterful performance from home professional Bilawal Bhatti that set Todmorden up for their huge total as he made a magnificent 188. Simon Newbitt also produced a high-class knock as he made 53.

Bhatti then continued his fine day at the office as he took four wickets in Enfield’s reply as the visitors fell short despite a spirited effort.

League leaders Burnley continued their fine form with a win over Nelson in a fantastic game at Seedhill.

The leaders posted 176-8 from their 50 overs with David Brown making 50.

Nelson were always in the contest as they attempted to chase down the target and were 64-1 off 20 overs, Burnley kept chipping away with wickets at key times and Nelson were left needing 22 off 28 balls with three wickets in hand.

But the hosts lost their last three wickets for six runs and were bowled out for 161.

Lewis Bradley top scored for Nelson with 66.

Ramsbottom were winners away at Haslingden to stay in the chasing pack behind Burnley.

Haslingden made 148-8 off 50 overs with useful contributions at the top and bottom of the order. Graham Knowles top scored with 24 while Rams professional Daryn Smit took 5-40 from 17 overs.

In reply, Smit was again the star as he produced a match-winning knock of 70 to see the Rams to a six-wicket victory.

Andy Holt weighed in with 33 while Martin Cropper added 21.

Jake Neary was the pick of the Haslingden bowlers as he finished with 2-24 from his seven overs.

Lowerhouse claimed a comfortable victory over Colne at the Neville Gee Recruitment Ground.

The hosts amassed 236-5 and that proved more than enough as the visitors were dismissed for 130.

Jonny Whitehead’s 95 at the top of the order set the tone for Lowerhouse with Fergus Bailey also in fine form with the bat as he made 55, In reply, Colne’s batsman got plenty of starts but no-one could quite take the innings forward with John Lambert top scoring with 33.

Patrick Martin was in fine form with the ball as he ripped through the Colne middle order to finish with 6-30 from 12.5 overs.

Elsewhere, Bacup got the better of Rawtenstall at Lanehead.

The home side were dismissed for 151 but that proved more than enough as the visitors were dismissed for 106 in reply.

Opener Adam Highley top scored for Bacup with 64 before becoming one of Keith Roscoe’s four victims while Joe McCluskie finished 4-29 for Rawtenstall.

But in reply the visitors slumped to 43-7 with only opener Matt Kershaw and Rizwan Shafiq offering any resistance as both finished with 29.

Hasseeb Azam took 4-28 for Bacup.

The day’s other game between East Lancashire and Rishton was a late result. East Lancashire batted first and made 170-6.
