NIAMH Robinson finished in fifth place in her heat in the 50m breaststroke as she got her Commonwealth Games campaign under way.

The 14-year-old from Darwen, competing for the Isle of Man, clocked 32.28secs in a heat won by England’s Sophie Taylor in 30.56secs.

Robinson, a member of Pioneer 79 Swimming Club based at Accrington Academy, must now wait to see if her time is quick enough to reach the next round.

The talented teen, who qualifies to swim for the Isle of Man through her mother, will also compete in the 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley
