Full-time: Burnley 1 Sheffield United 2
NO LAFF-ING MATTER: Kyle Lafferty can't believe his luck as another chance is passed up
NO LAFF-ING MATTER: Kyle Lafferty can't believe his luck as another chance is passed up

BURNLEY created more and better chances against in-form Sheffield United, but couldn't keep their slim play-off hopes alive.

Instead, the Blades made the most of their openings, as an unmarked Billy Sharp headed in the decisive goal on 53 minutes, after James Beattie put Kevin Blackwell's side in front with a stunning free kick just after the half-hour.

Frustratingly, Brian Jensen had been relatively untroubled during the 90 minutes as a whole compared to counterpart Paddy Kenny, who withstood some late pressure.

The Clarets battled for an equaliser after Andrew Cole struck his fifth goal since joining on loan from Sunderland in January on 81 minutes, but they were thwarted at every turn.

On a brighter note, Michael Duff was named in the squad for the first time since recovering from the multiple knee ligament damage he sustained in September.

Well if only games were won on creating and making better chances. As we all know the point of the game is to score goals to win or draw games.
Surely there must be a complete rebuild of the squad from goal keeper to strikers in the summer.
Owen coyle must be given money to shape his own team and be given the backing from the board and from us supporters.
I think OC has tried to get the team playing in the right manner from the players he inherited from SC but consistancey has been the problem conceeding too many goals.
Im giving OC a chance to bring in his own players, have his own pre season ready to tackle the 08/09 season. To me this season hasnt been a bad one in the fact that we were not in a relergation dog fight and have been in the top half of the table for most the season but also its been a frustrating one in the fact that we should have got results from certain games which in no doubt would have seen the clarets in the playoffs at least this season.Anyway lets hope we can get a win at southampton next week.I will be there and remember folks they dont have meat and potato pies at the (Scum)Sorry thats what us portmouth peeps refer to those down the road.

Chances indeed, but need to convert these to get the results! I hope the promise of a busy summer will happen. Apparently Coyle has the funds and has already done the leg work for his targets. I hope so. We aint in a relegation battle this season, step forward! Football seems to be more attackin. Step forward. Seem to pass the ball a little better. Step forward. These are positive steps. If the squad can be bolstered over the summer, Coyle makes it his own, with pre season and all then just maybe we can push and cement a play off spot. Bad result today, but no point in getting upset, the season has long been over...mid table mediocrity again. Build his own team, play his football and hopefully we'll start to achieve in 2008/2009. It is a FACT that teams which finish the season strongly tend to start the following season from where they left off. I correctly predicted on this site 6 weeks ago that this would turn out to be a shambolic end to the season.
If Coyle spends the limited transfer budget bringing in players who are unproven at Championship level or higher Burnley may well find themselves at the wrong end of the table very quickly.
Do not be fooled by paper talk of "summer spending sprees". The only spending Mr Flood will want to hear about is the money being spent on Season Tickets!!

i have said this before and i repeat it,without massive investment next season we are in for one hell of a relegation battle.
this squad lacks,pace,skill,mot
ivation and guts.this lot wants shipping out with the exception of about 5 players and i can't see oc getting enough cash to get a team to avoid relegation.its sad but true we have a overaged squad.when the loans have returned, some out of contracts leaving, lafferty sold and some rubbish binned imagine what the squad will look like?s.c made an utter shambles of this team wether he walked or was sacked it don't matter his type of football was shocking.oc is playing the right way but hasn't got the players to carry it off.we are in real trouble and now we shall see what the board do to save us.give the boss some cash,at least enough to prove himself or not.the team reminds me of my old bike tyre patched up to make do.

Sorry Burnley fans this is one I can't resist. The sh!t you gave us rovers fans when we had a bad run mid season.Well it's now our turn. You lot are totally crap on all counts, enjoy another season in the chumpionship next season. Bye..........
Ok we have failed to reach the playoffs which is disappointing (for us)
Rovers have spent 35 million pounds on wages this year, got knocked out of the FA cup by Coventry (who may still be relegated), knocked out of league cup by arsenal reserves. You are struggling to get in the intertoto cup,
having won 7 out of seventeen home games.
that works out at 5 million per home win.
Value for money eh.
Hope you have as good a season next term.

So do i. Top ten in England yet again will do nicely thanks very much.
You forgot to mention the fact we have only lost 4 away games all season and that we got a draw at stamford bridge , did the double over newcastle , were the first team to take points from man city. typical dingle , selective memory.
Also, our manager and direscter dont give us a load of lies and false promises. How gud that your new stadium will actually hold less than the current one, very forward thinking.
Hmmmmmm dingle shoes or rovers shoes, somehow i know u wish you were in ours.
Hmmmmmm nxt season, play mu , lpool , arsenal or norwhich , qpr, plymouth tough decision.

Enjoy the chumpionship he he he he he he he he

Nice one Zesh, the dingles do suffer from selective memory.I think we should pity them and not mock them, but then with the drivvel they come out with, they just ask for it.

Yes, i selected the figures that show you have not had a great season.
I know rovers are a better side than burnley. It is not an issue for me.
Are you happy at winning nothing again this season, with all the money thats been spent by your club.
Is seven home wins a good season for you.
Yes you will be playing liverpool etc next season, but will you win anything.
Your happy to finish 10th in the league and win nothing. You lack ambition blueandwhite.
Try to reply without the dingle hatred, it's very boring.

First- we havnt finished tenth yet, might be seventh
Second - we spent only 3.5 mill on one player who has scored 18 goals, pretty gud if you ask me. so dont give me that "all the money "rubbish
Third - what did u expect us to win? we are above spurs, newcastle, west ham, boro, sunderland all of who spent millions. Thats pretty good in anyones book.
How can u talk about ambition when your own club has none?
Im more then happy with my clubs performance.
In recent years we have had two promotions, a championship, a worthington cup,5 cup semi-finals where we have lost to arsenal, man u or chelsea and europe several times and we have no debt. Ask newcastle or man city if they would be happy with that.
If your own team showed half the ambition we have you wouldnt be so bitter.
And whats all the seven home wins rubbish, ignore the fact we have only lost 8 league games all season.
How u wish u were us

couple of things i'd like to get of my chest 1)what is this thing with the stewards when going to my seat in the upper hargreaves stand, surely there must be some health and safety aspect when you are being stopped every 3 ateps by a **** in a yellow coat asking to check my ticket after 6 times it became a joke, especially because most of the stewards have the intelligence of a barstewrd fan you cant sing stand enjoy your self what is going on.mr flood beware the feeling is enough is enough 2)where we finnish in the league is just not looking at relegation but things could have been so different if we had'nt lost those silly home games against the lower teams i am and always will be glad to be a claret i love the team and would love to be in the prem we will god willing get there this team would have been worst than derby this season and that we don't need.

Can't wait for all the "let's finish on a high comments" that will no doubt emanate this week. It's looking like our 6th consecutive bottom half finish - try & put a spin on that one!

I've kept my powder dry recently trying to give this new manager a chance but we are just getting the same drivel.
Performances are now worse than when Cotterill was in charge
Can the Telegraph not run a feature which examines our form before and after Cotterill instead of garbage like the David Unsworth story?

Well said claretbutblue. This weeks theme. We are not going to give up on play-offs until it is mathematically impossible!

Manager and players stressed the importance of "finishing the season strongly".
FACT: Only 8 points won from the last 27 available.
FACT: Club is now closer to the BOTTOM 3 than the TOP 3.

The staff at Burnley are just trying to get as many people as possible to go to meaningless games. Ignore their bluster. Flood and Kilby are desperate to rake in as much money as possible to line their own pockets.
