ONE UP: Elliott blasts the Clarets in front after 30 minutes
BURNLEY battled through the rain and mud to breathe life back into their play-off aspirations.
Just days after signing a new three-year deal, winger Wade Elliott celebrated by scoring his second of the season on the half-hour.
And in the week that Kyle Lafferty struck twice for Northern Ireland in their friendly with Georgia, the 20-year-old started up front and duly netted his fifth of the season.
Although Brian Howard pulled a goal back for FA Cup semi-finalists Barnsley, the Clarets earlier goals proved enough to settle a game that looked in jeopardy at the start of the second half.
Torrential rain had left standing water all over the pitch.
But after careful consideration, the referee allowed the game to continue.

Both sides tried to alter the scoreline, but Tykes striker Jonathan Macken clipped the top of the crossbar, while Burnley midfielder Joey Gudjonsson was also denied by the woodwork.

"play off aspirations", get real. If it carries on raining and the pitches stay like todays it will bring the opposition down to our level, poor. We might have an outside chance....no more than that

a good battling win in terrible conditions, but too late for the play offs.with our form as eractic as it is i can't see us winning the last 5 games,i hope we do but its a big ask for any team.i ask the same question again, why are we paying coles wages,on the bench again, how many games has he started?most of the teams in the top 6 have a game in hand over us and just a point from that game makes our task even harder.it would be great to make the play offs,it would help the coffers also, but like so many fans i believe we lost a real chance in january.here hoping for 5 wins.

The reason we are paying Coles wages?
Mmmmmm, well, I am trying to work that one out too!
Lets face it, he must be one of, if not the highest earner at the club due to his status.
However, I don't see many people going crazy for "Cole" shirts, as the fans did following the signings of Wrighty and Gazza in recent seasons.
Personally, I feel that the signing of Cole has been a mistake by the Burnley board, as he has not made the money, or scored that goals that the board would have hoped.
Well, at least it offers some explanation as to where a chunk of the Gray Thomas money has gone!

Good win today in awful conditions. Kyle showed something of his potential today and ran his socks off, even with his injury. Great goal from Kyle.
Fair play to the ref today. He could have called it off at half time but had checked the forcast and called it correctly in my view.
The play offs are still possible but are a long shot. It's still important to finish the season strongly, to give us encouragement for next season.
Here's to 3 points at Norwich next week.

Win the next one and we really are back in it. Lose it and we're definitely out of it. It's a total must-win - so it'll probably be a draw!
but Norwich are on a terrible run, can hardly score, so you just never know.

Get Real foks, the chance of getting into the playoffs was lost way back in Aug/sept 07 simply by holding on to Steve Cottrell for far too long,SC should have been dismissed at the end of last season.

Lets give credit to all concerened on Saturday.
We clarets fans were down in the dumps after recent games ,Barnsley had bigger things on their mind , and we have had enough of refreees for the season.
But this game played in awful conditions was very entertaining , both teams played their part, the fans got to see good goals, with Kyle playing were he should be.Credit to the referee who used common sense, and who knows as was once said , if you dont have a dream then.....UTC

Get your tickets now its the best finish we have had to the Championship in years. We are still in the mix a game .Just keep it rolling with three points at Norwich.Burnley fans love to knock the team but get behind them now and believe. We can still make it.

Good win. Thought the ref should have called it off at half-time. But credit for the players on both teams playing in horrible conditions. I thought it was a really good game, it is good watching a game like that in the mud. Two fully committed teams. Thought Barnsley could have earned a draw but glad they did not because we want to get in the top 6. If you look at our results this season (i.e. Watford at home, Stoke home and away, Bristol City home - if we managed to hang onto the points or gained the points we fully merited than we would be in the top 6. The squad is not far off is it? They are doing really well.... but like my dad said'If Burnley could get that extra player or two, where could we be?')
Good game, and goodluck to Barnsley in semi final at weekend in F.A Cup!!
Please can we just ignore the ******* rovers fans.
They are a better team than us because they are in the Premier League BUT hopefully not for long. Plus Burnley fans are better than ****** rover fans. If Burnley got to the Prem League then we wud get well over 20,000+ fans every home game. ******* rovers get bout 19,000 or so. Rovers are better team BUT not better supporters!!!!
Up the Clarets!!!! :)

Personally thought it was a very good game played in atrocious conditions. Firstly well done to the Ref for using some common sense in allowing the game to flow and completing the game. Secondly thought Lafferty and Elliot were both superb in the conditions. Both sides played good attacking football and created some good chances. Well worth the 500 mile trip. Finally good luck to Barnsley next week. UTC

I read the Burnley site for a giggle, and that's what it is.You could not fill that mediocre crap ground against Arsenal. How can you justify comments that Burnley are better fans than Rovers and that you would fill the ground every week if you got into the premiership. I just think Burnley fans are jealous of several things, 1st. Jacks cash,ok we bought the premiership win but so did Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal.2nd, Rovers won the league cup, ok it was six years ago but they still won it.3rd, They are in the premier league and will be next season.4th,in recent times under Stan the turnip we beat you home and away, and then you wrecked your town centre, what there was of it. So cut the jealousy you sad gits and wake up and smell the roses. Next season Burnley will still be in the Championship and Rovers will still be in the best league in the world. It doesn't matter that you all say "hopefully not for long" until it happens we are still there. But for some reason you're hatred of Rovers just won't accept it. Why?, is it because on all counts Rovers are just simply far superior than Burnley.

Your'e so right in everything you say.
You bought the Prem title.
You won the league cup.
You are and will be next season in the Prem.
We might not be in the championship, but probably will be.
That doesn't change the fact that we hate you lot and love BFC.
We would hate you if you were in the Prem or the 3rd division, so don't worry it's got nothing to do with jealousy. It's just that your'e all six fingered moronic sister lovers that have three heads and live in the sh1t tip of the north. We are not on our own everyone hates you. Mainly because your'e a pathetic little football club with a very good manager and three good players and go on and on and on and on and on and on about some tin pot silverware you won six years ago, a prem title you bought and how your'e going to qualify for europe every season.

Ooijer = 34
Old man(Tugay) He's older than our manager=38
Henchoz = 34
To name a few.
At least our old players will be going back to their clubs at the end of the season. Youre stuck with yours. In fact you are offering them new contracts.
And you wonder why everyone laughs at you.

Mainly because your'e a pathetic little football club with a very good manager and three good players and go on and on and on and on and on and on about some tin pot silverware you won six years ago, a prem title you bought and how your'e going to qualify for europe every season. [bold]Why are B#stards so far superior than Burnley?[/bold]
Smell the jealousy!!!! it's sooooooo easy winding you bitter little chumpstains up!!! Bet your frothing at the mouth while you struggle to type you daft mutant! Let's ALL laugh at you sad green eyed knuckle scrapers! [bold]Especially you kiddo - you're obsessed! Hmmmm...wonder who you could be! LOL! How's Timmy Mallett??? LOL![/bold] This is the most one sided local rivalry ever!
Mummy gone to bed so you have sneeked on the pc. You naughty boy. Shoulder dry yet!!
Ha ha - still wound up I see! Bless yer - you do try, but you're just rubbish at this aren't you? LOL!

Laughing at Burnley wrote: I read the Burnley site for a giggle, and that's what it is.You could not fill that mediocre crap ground against Arsenal.
Your'e so right in everything you say. You bought the Prem title. You won the league cup. You are and will be next season in the Prem. We might not be in the championship, but probably will be. Trust me we would get well over 20,000+ if we got to the Prem. The Arsenal game was a farce with the ticket policy. If part-time fans wanted to go then you had to buy an extra ticket for the game against Bristol City, plus it was on t.v!!!!!!!
