Burnley boss to speak to Cole's agent over weekend

BURNLEY manager Owen Coyle is set to hold talks with Andrew Cole's representative over the weekend following the striker's release from Sunderland.

The 36-year-old was told by Black Cats boss Roy Keane yesterday that, after just one season, his services were no longer required at the Stadium of Light.

But that has given Coyle the green light to attempt to persuade the former Manchester United and England front man against thoughts of retirement and continue his stint at Turf Moor, which produced six goals in eight starts during a three-month loan spell.

In the meantime, the Clarets boss was due to speak with Jon Harley today to see if the left back was any closer to deciding whether or not to accept the terms offered earlier this week.

Brian Jensen, David Unsworth and James O'Connor are expected to respond next week, following an end-of-season break.

Is it just me, or there any other Burnley fans out there that actually wants this half fit has been to lead the line next season? A feckin joke. As for Varga, jesus!

This half fit has been, he can bang em in better than akinbiyi blake and lafferty put together, he's a whole different level of footballer despite his age, go 4 it Coyle, he'll be a star on the turf next season

Well me for one Jammyone. Cole is still a top class striker and will take his chances unlike Akinbadbuyi, Kyle and even Robbie these days. Mind you I will lose my faith in BFC if OC signs Varga again.

6 goals in 8 starts. Not bad record that. Andy Cole can make a big difference. He won't play all the games next season but Cole can be the difference for us being mid-table into a play-off force. Just give Coyle the backing. I can't believe the Burnley fans sometimes.

I used to be a Manchester United fan from the age of 6 to 11 years old, but I did go onto the Burnley matches with my dad when Burnley were playing the likes of Wolves with Steve Bull in their side. Remember getting beat 1-0 to them when I was about 5. I am nearly 20 now so looking back is good.

I can also remeber when I was about 10 years old and Burnley were playing Wycombe Wanderers away at Adams Park and my dad was listening to it on his mini-radio and told me Burnley were winning 2-1, I was upset at the time and I said to him @I don't give a $hit, Burnley are $hit'. I think I was upset with my dad over something.

Now, looking at me now I am 20 in 2 weeks :) , I am a big big big Burnley fan. 6th year I have had a season ticket and I am a proud to be a Clarets fan. Go to all home games and most away games. My bedroom is all Burnley! I have all the knowledge about Burnley stored in my head, maybe weak on history side of Clarets when we were champions in the 60's.

The Clarets fans I meet are very pleasant, get a few morons (i.e. Earby Clarets who I used to go to away games with now I go to away games with Burnley Football Supporters Club). Usually go on my own to the away games on the coach, but my dad has come in the last few away games.

I was not a Burnley fan until the age of 12 or so, now I am a big fan, and I am proud to be a Burnley fan.

Thank god I am not a ba$tard Rovers fan, and you may be better than us athe current moment but ONE day in the near future 'we' BURNLEY will surpass you.

UP THE CLARETS!

Get behind Owen Coyle all Burnley fans and see what he can do in the transfer market. Have faith in him and lets see what he can do for Burnley Football Club.

Have a nice summer everyone. :)

Nah, it's too funny reading the dozy drivel that you claret chimps post on here.

Coyle's always good for a laff as well.

Keep dreaming kiddo.

Fair play on dropping Man U though.

I want to add that having Andrew Cole back at the turf he will help the youngsters mature and bulid up their team and playing confidence. If he does'nt return, I wish him all the luck in whatever follows him in the future.

Hope Andrew Cole does sign, so long as his wages are not too high, he is still a quality player and 36 is not too old so long as he has that correct mental atitude, which I'm sure he has, lets not forget that Linford Christie broke the British 100m record at 36! UTC

Are you a student? And if so, have you been smoking something?

I have to admire your optimism in how Burnley will become great! With the way things are going, I can't quite see it!

You can bet that Varga will be in Burnley for talks soon, as he is available on a freebie!

Oh, and by the way - THIS IS A FOOTBALL FANS FORUM, NOT AN INTERNET VERSION OF "THIS IS YOUR LIFE".

Well, personally, I would like to see Cole in a Burnley shirt next season - where else are the goals going to come from?

We all know that Lafferty can score a cracker from time-to-time, and his goals-to-game ratio is better for his national side than for his club side - and thats playing against a generally better class of defender. However, his goal-scoring ratio for Burnley won't improve whilst he is playing out wide on the left. Hopefully, once that Albanian lad (however you spell his name!) is fit, he can fill the role on the left, and put Lafferty up front.

Having Cole at the club will also help the younger lads develop - or at least I hope it will - they could look up at him, and realise that if you apply yourself correctly and in a professional manner, then you can achieve a lot in the game.

As he showed last season, he still has unbelievable pace, a great footballing mind, and he can still bag a goal or two!

Martin Taylor
Damian Johnson
Jay McEveley
Andy Todd
Robbie Savage

There's five more Rovers rejects who can't cut it in the Premiership that'll be looking for a new club because either their manager is sick of the sight of them or their chairmen want to bail out and recoup as much money as possible.

A couple have already played for you when you were whittering on about "closing the gap" and at least one of the others is as mental as me and Wrighty.
