Clarets treasures sold-off

BIDDING was fierce for a Burnley FC star's football treasures.

Former goalkeeper Alan Stevenson's memorabilia from his 11-year Clarets career was auctioned at London's Sotherby's.

And the collection sold for a total of £5,900, around £1,000 more than expected.

A mystery bidder snapped up his nine-carat gold Third Division championship medal from 1981-82 for £1,100, £400 higher than the top guide price.

Six of Stevenson's England under 23 caps sold for a total of £2,000, double the pre-sale estimate.

Other items sold included a silver trap celebrating Stevenson's 300th appearance for the Turf Moor club.

Mr Stevenson, now 57, who played 550 times for Burnley, had sold the memorabilia eight years ago because the items were just "sitting in the loft".

It was the new owner who had put them up for the latest sale.

Stevenson played for Burnley between 1972 and 1983, before joining Manchester City, Rotherham and Hartlepool. After retiring from football, he moved into the business side of the game and is now commercial director at Shrewsbury Town.

Were there any trophies or winner's medals in this "treasure"? Probably not, seeing that Burnley last won something in about 5600 BC

Obviously very proud of playing for Burnley eh? Flogging his stuff in the first place for not much money if it only made £5900 now.
Must have been the shame factor of playing at turd bore.

Didn't the Blackburn fans bid for Simon Garner's slopping out bucket?
