Lafferty praise for record-breaker Healy

BURNLEY youngster Kyle Lafferty has hailed record-breaking Northern Ireland team-mate David Healy ahead of tonight's friendly with Georgia at Windsor Park.

The Fulham striker is set to be presented with a commemorative trophy by UEFA president Michel Platini, after his 13 goals in the Euro 2008 qualifiers eclipsed Davor Suker's 12-year record for most goals scored in a qualifying campaign.

"David is one of the best finishers I have ever seen. Even in training I keep an eye on him to see how he goes about things," said Lafferty, who has scored three goals in 14 appearances for Northern Ireland.

"I'm only 20 so I haven't done a lot in my career so far but I hope I can achieve the same kind of things David has.

"You only have to look at his record in the European qualifiers.

"To beat such a long-standing record like that is unbelievable.

"People talk about David struggling at club level for Fulham, but you only have to look at his record for Northern Ireland.

"I think any team in English football would welcome David Healy into their ranks.

"When he lines up for Northern Ireland he does the business. He gives us a real competitive edge and he instills confidence in everyone in the squad.

"David might not be playing for Fulham, but when he turns up for international duty, he can't stop scoring."
